Description
We are in a period of unprecedented growth and are seeking a
Network Engineer
to support our team out of our Lubbock, TX office.
This person will work in service provider networks to assist with new deployments, system upgrades, migration projects, and resolving network issues. This person will also be responsible for setting up, configuring, and deploying service provider routers, switches, and firewalls. They will also create and maintain documentation, so strong communication and documentation skills are required.
Responsibilities & Duties
Assist in the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of routers, switches, firewalls, and other network equipment.
Support the implementation of new network solutions and enhance existing infrastructure.
Troubleshoot network issues, resolve outages and perform root cause analysis.
Assist with network upgrades, patches, and maintenance to ensure security and optimal performance.
Collaborate with senior engineers to design and implement scalable network solutions.
Maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams and configuration details.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for network security and reliability.
Provide technical support and respond to service requests from clients or internal teams.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related field.
Equivalent practical experience may be substituted for a degree, provided the candidate has at least a high school diploma or GED.
Certifications like CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent are a plus.
Experience:
Basic knowledge of network protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS, IP addressing, etc.).
Job-based experience with routing and switching networking equipment from the following list:
Cisco ASR9k
Cisco NCS
Juniper MX
Juniper EX
Arista 7280
Two (2) years of experience in telecommunications at carrier scale, working with layer 2/3 routers and switches, as well as data services for broadband subscribers.
Four (4) years of experience in telecommunications service provider core and edge networks preferred.
Four (4) years of experience implementing services using command-line interface in network equipment preferred.
Requires three years of experience working remotely and operating independently with minimal supervision.
Three years of experience in consulting or a similar job with strict timelines and set budgets is preferred.
In-depth knowledge of the rural/Tier 3-4 telecom industry, its operations and broad technical concepts is preferred.
Skills:
Ability to troubleshoot network problems and work effectively under pressure.
Understanding of network security principles, including firewalls and VPNs.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
