The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) team is seeking an network engineer to support the WAAS system administration team. WAAS is a satellite navigation aid developed by the FAA to augment the Global Positioning System (GPS), with the goal of improving its accuracy, integrity, and availability. The position supports the WAAS lab network through systems engineering and implementation of software and hardware modifications.
Responsibilities:
WAAS lab network management and support.
Research, design, development, testing, evaluation, and maintenance of computer hardware and software systems in an integrated manner.
Conducts lab network system reviews, audits, and testing.
Perform packet inspection with Wireshark.
Write packet encoding and decoding libraries and applications.
Adheres to configuration management (CM) requirements, and performs changes as required.
Property/Inventory management.
Requirements:
US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required. All applicants must have resided in the United States for the past 3 years
.
On-site presence will be as required by the FAA.
Knowledge of computer operating systems, system administration of software and hardware with proven ability to debug complex systems and to conduct reviews, audits and testing.
Knowledge and understanding of the importance of testing during all phases of the software/hardware development process.
Familiarity of Linux Operating Systems.
Knowledge and understanding of network protocols and ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot new networks is preferred.
In depth knowledge of Linux system implementation and orchestration using the Kickstart and Ansible framework.
Familiarity with using the git version control system.
Experience working in a team environment.
Good written and spoken communication including developing technical documentation.
Nice to Have:
This individual may be asked to use AutoCAD to create or update diagrams and drawings. Prior knowledge is helpful but not necessary
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering. A degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field such as physics, aerospace, chemistry, computer science, or mathematics may be substituted in lieu of the engineering degree, depending on other qualifications and experience.
