This Senior Data Scientist position is pivotal in developing scalable mathematical algorithms that solve complex retail and merchandising challenges, directly impacting our business outcomes. The ideal candidate will spearhead optimization projects from start to finish, collaborating cross-functionally and framing business problems effectively. You will work on technical design, development, deployment, and continuous monitoring, creating robust decision-making systems that enhance efficiency and elevate customer experiences. In this role, you will work closely with product managers, software engineers, and stakeholders to identify impactful opportunities, convert them into technical requirements, and deliver scalable production solutions. Additionally, you will communicate insights and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, mentor junior data scientists, and ensure that our models perform effectively in real-world scenarios. Key Responsibilities:
Solution Development (35%):
Develop algorithms and models to analyze large datasets for actionable business insights. Ensure efficient execution and high-quality outcomes by selecting and utilizing advanced analytical methodologies. Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate project progress and drive stakeholder alignment. Project Management & Team Support (30%):
Collaborate with project teams and partners to define goals and prioritize work effectively. Provide mentorship to junior team members, support resource distribution, and assist in recruiting efforts. Business Collaboration (20%):
Use your business acumen to shape solution approaches. Cultivate trust with internal partners and provide insights on advanced analytics, driving data science as a competitive advantage. Technical Exploration & Development (15%):
Stay updated on industry developments in data science and analytics. Develop reusable solutions, define best practices for model deployment, and contribute to our library of algorithms. Direct Reports:
Reports to management with no direct reports. Travel Requirements:
Travel expected to be less than 10% overnight. Physical Requirements:
Primarily a seated position with occasional movement required to lift light objects. Location:
Comfortable indoor working environment. Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years or older. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in a quantitative field (Operations Research, Computer Science, AI, Engineering, Applied Math, etc.). 6+ years of experience developing and deploying optimization models in production. Expertise in optimization solvers (e.g., Gurobi, CPLEX, OR-Tools) and programming languages like Python. Strong grasp of data structures and familiarity with cloud ecosystems (GCP, AWS). Knowledge of simulation approaches and/or reinforcement learning. Proficient with data visualization tools (preferably Tableau). Familiar with GenAI, LLM frameworks. Experience working alongside front-end developers or building UI prototypes (e.g., Streamlit, React). Background in solving retail merchandising challenges like assortment optimization. Minimum Education:
