Job Title: Nursing Professional Development Practitioner – Family Birth Place
Location: Carroll Hospital, 200 Memorial Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Job Summary:
Carroll Hospital is seeking a Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner to support the Family Birth Place. This role blends education, mentorship, orientation oversight, and interdisciplinary collaboration to advance clinical excellence and professional development for frontline nursing staff. The NPD Practitioner functions as a facilitator, mentor, advisor, and partner in promoting evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and high-quality patient care, in alignment with ANA Nursing Professional Development Scope and Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Education & Professional Development
Facilitate real-time, needs-based learning and support staff requests.
Serve as a trusted resource, modeling professional practice and reinforcing evidence-based care.
Conduct rounding to assess knowledge/practice gaps and provide feedback for decision-making.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, implement, and evaluate education initiatives.
Align education across departments to standardize best practices and integrate evidence-based practice.
Promote continuous professional growth through targeted learning opportunities.
Orientation & Onboarding
Coordinate and evaluate unit orientation for nursing staff and students.
Support preceptors in teaching strategies, competency validation, and schedule management.
Provide guidance for nursing student conversion to permanent roles.
Participate in Clinical Orientation and Nurse Residency programs as needed.
Professional Development & Mentorship
Mentor nurses and support staff to promote professional growth, certification, and lifelong learning.
Provide individualized coaching for new graduates, specialty nurses, and experienced staff.
Ensure ongoing education meets competency, certification, and regulatory standards.
Curriculum Development
Design, develop, and coordinate system-wide curriculum aligned with organizational priorities.
Plan and implement education programs using adult learning principles and evidence-based teaching strategies.
Identify and prioritize educational topics based on quality, safety, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.
Deliver cost-effective, high-quality training tailored to diverse staff needs.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Quality
Partner with Clinical Leadership, Quality, and Compliance teams to align education with performance metrics and organizational goals.
Serve as an educational resource for regulatory and accreditation readiness.
Use data and evidence-based findings to identify priorities and evaluate program effectiveness.
Leadership
Promote critical thinking and resilience among nursing staff.
Collaborate with frontline leadership on strategic planning, policy development, and educational initiatives.
Support a culture of learning, excellence, and safe patient care.
Qualifications:
Required:
Registered Nurse (RN) license – Current Maryland license or eligibility
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, Completion of MSN required within 2 years of hire.
Labor & Delivery or NICU experience
Preferred:
Advanced Practice RN – Clinical Nurse Specialist (APRN-CNS)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Certification:
National certification in Nursing Specialty or Nursing Professional Development required within 1 year of hire
