Join Coinbase's Financial Services & Loyalty (FS&L) team, where you will help develop cutting-edge financial products using blockchain technology. FS&L is responsible for key offerings such as payment processing, credit cards, on-chain lending and borrowing, staking, and the CB One subscription, serving millions of users. We are on the lookout for a highly skilled technical leader to define the engineering vision for FS&L, ensure architectural integrity across our various product lines, and uphold the scalability and reliability of our high-throughput systems. You will lead multi-quarter initiatives that span various teams and serve as a crucial mentor to fellow senior engineers. What You'll Be Doing Establish and implement the technical vision and strategy for FS&L, ensuring systems achieve exceptional throughput and low latency at scale.
Design and build mission-critical financial systems (including card processing and loan repayments) focused on funds flow and reconciliation.
Improve developer productivity by advocating for innovative tools such as Go, Temporal, K8, and MongoDB, along with AI integration.
Mentor and guide team members to foster their personal and technical development.
Work closely with Product and Engineering leaders to align long-term product and engineering goals.
Drive the creation of reusable platforms for broad usage across Coinbase.
What We Look For In You (Must-Haves) 10+ years of experience in software engineering, especially with large-scale distributed systems.
Extensive knowledge of payments or traditional financial systems.
A proven history of architecting and developing high-throughput, low-latency financial systems capable of processing $500M monthly.
Strong understanding of funds flow, reconciliation processes, and financial system invariants.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives across diverse organizations while ensuring architectural consistency.
A strong desire to mentor and empower your teammates.
Experience with consumer products focusing on design and user experience.
Nice to Haves Familiarity with Go or other high-performance backend programming languages.
Experience with vendor integrations and navigating regulated environments.
A forward-thinking attitude towards crypto applications (e.g., on-chain activities and blockchain payment processes).

The target annual base salary for this position may vary based on your work location, ranging from $253,895 to $298,700 USD. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
