About the Department/College
NAU's Radiant Center for Remote Sensing coalesces existing expertise in remote sensing and applications across the university to answer pressing scientific questions in multiple disciplines including planetary surfaces, atmospheres, ecology, forestry, wildfire science, environmental science, urban planning/geography, geoscience/volcanology, and anthropology/archeology. The Radiant Center is housed under the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) which promotes research, scholarship, and creative activity across Northern Arizona University. About the Position
Radiant seeks a Research Computing Systems Administrator to support the Center, its faculty and staff through the management of computational resources and by providing end-user support. As part of a specialized team, the successful candidate will help monitor and maintain the Center's research computing systems and software, ensuring systems are operating effectively and securely, and will serve as a point of contact for Center faculty and staff to resolve questions and problems. Website construction and maintenance, collaboration with Center faculty and staff, and adjusting workflows per competing priorities will all be valuable skills to possess in this role. Responsibilities Include
40% - Computational Resource Management Assists in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and administration of research computing infrastructure and systems, research applications, and commercial software packages, including software licenses and sharing among Center faculty and staff. Helps to create, modify, and delete user accounts, perform system back-ups, and maintain system configuration files. Helps perform regular patching, updates, and maintenance of research systems and equipment to ensure optimal performance and security and uphold privacy standards. May work with high-risk data, meets requirements for compliance, and participates in designing policies and procedures for ensuring data privacy. Advises, develops, and oversees the Center's usage of Sharepoint, Teams, and other platforms to ensure seamless communication and maximized collaboration. Manages listservs for Center administration, faculty and staff. Works with Center leadership to establish and maintain the Radiant Center website. 30% - Research User Support
Troubleshoots issues and offers guidance on using research computing resources, specifically related to specialized research equipment and processing algorithms. This may include the configuration of software on specialized platforms (e.g., mobile processing/edge computing units). Participates in the development, delivery, and maintenance of courses and in-person training on specific software packages/tools to support the effective use of research systems and enhance research outcomes. Consults with Radiant Center faculty & staff to understand their computational needs and facilitates interactions across the Center and with centralized ITS. Provides direct support to Center faculty, supporting inter-departmental collaborative research. Develops and documents custom software for research and center activities. 20% - Data Processing Support
Supports data processing for a range of areas from specialized equipment, including UAV-derived data, spaceflight missions, scientific algorithm implementation, database management, software tool and web app development, and automation of data-handling operations and report generation. Provides assistance with the management, analysis, and manipulation of large data sets; creates scripts, tools, and reporting based on data sets. Participates with researchers in applying relevant computing capabilities and knowledge to facilitate and/or transform research. 10% - Other
Performs other duties within the scope of general Radiant Center research computing maintenance, and addresses unforeseen needs as they arise. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in computer science or relevant field. 1 year of relevant experience. *A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, systems administration, or related field. Experience working in and managing complex computing environments, specifically Windows/Mac/Linux including low-level system functionality. Experience with multiple programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Bash, Python, Fortran, etc). Experience working with website development, server management, and/or database systems (SQL, Postgres, html/CSS, etc). Experience working at the interface between hardware and software in specialized implementations (e.g., embedded development, GUI development, computer vision, etc). Experience working with cloud computing systems systems and associated knowledge of web services (AWS, Azure, etc). Demonstrated capacity for effective communication and collaborative teamwork. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge Baseline knowledge of tools, processes, policies and concepts of system administration. Baseline knowledge of system hardware maintenance methods and processes. Knowledge of application, networking and system software for higher education. Knowledge of NAU's systems and platforms such as Teams, Sharepoint, etc. Skills

Salary range begins at $64,500. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience. Pre-Employment Check

In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
