The Enterprise Network Engineer I's scope of responsibility includes providing primary support for the operation of enterprise-level technology used by enterprise-wide mission-critical systems and infrastructure. Discretion and sound judgment is expected. Enterprise positions are restricted for use in central IT Division areas reporting to the institutional CIO and, as such, may interface with key IT leadership and/or other functional leadership from the Texas Tech University System institutions.
Major/Essential Functions
Perform routine network monitoring using enterprise tools, escalating anomalies to senior staff. Execute routine configuration tasks (such as switchport activations, VLAN assignments, and new device provisioning) by following established procedures, under supervision. Respond to or participate in on-call and incident response activities, occasionally performing initial troubleshooting and diagnostics before escalating appropriately. Accurately document configuration changes, incident resolution steps, and other work performed. Assist senior engineers with installing, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading the enterprise wired, wireless and WAN infrastructure as needed for professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience or working knowledge of installing, administering, operating, and maintaining enterprise-class network systems, such as switches, routers, firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, VOIP Systems, LANs/WANs, VPN concentrators, wireless Ethernet, proxy systems, and load balancers.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related area OR a combination of related education and/or experience. Applicants for this Security Sensitive Level II position will be subject to a criminal background check and must pass a drug and alcohol test after a conditional offer of employment has been extended, but before employment can be confirmed.
This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.
