At Apple Orchard , we are dedicated to supporting adolescent males with complex needs stemming from early trauma. Our trauma-informed approach focuses on developing the whole person, empowering them to achieve their transitional milestones.
We are excited to invite a passionate One to One Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team! This full-time role runs Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 16:30, during term time only. While primarily based at one site, you may also support students at local PE venues and, eventually, in college settings.
Your ResponsibilitiesAs a vital member of our team, you will work closely with the Headteacher and class teachers to:
- Embrace our Therapeutic Approach: Align your work with the therapeutic strategies adopted by Apple Orchard.
- Facilitate Learning: Help pupils learn effectively in both group settings and individually by:
- Clarifying and explaining instructions.
- Ensuring pupils can use provided equipment and materials.
- Motivating and encouraging pupils through individual attention and support.
- Support Development: Assist in areas such as speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, and handwriting.
- Encourage Focus: Use praise and guidance to help pupils concentrate and stay on task.
- Collaborate: Liaise with class teachers, SENCO, and other professionals regarding Individual Personal Education Plans (PEPs).
- Provide Nurture: Offer additional support to individuals as requested by the class teacher or SENCO.
- Implement Strategies: Consistently apply agreed behavior management strategies.
- Build Relationships: Establish supportive connections with the pupils.
- Promote Inclusion: Encourage acceptance and interaction among pupils with SEN.
- Adapt Activities: Monitor and modify learning activities to achieve desired outcomes.
To thrive in this role, you should possess:
- A minimum qualification of GCSE A-C or equivalent in Maths and English.
- A Level 3 or above Teaching Assistant qualification.
- An understanding of the challenges faced by students with Emotional, Behavioural, or Social needs.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a close-knit team.
- Desirable: Experience in a specialist environment.
