Salary: £20,422 - £21,111.51
Contract Term: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract - Term Time Only

Hours: 08:30 - 16:30

At Apple Orchard , we are dedicated to supporting adolescent males with complex needs stemming from early trauma. Our trauma-informed approach focuses on developing the whole person, empowering them to achieve their transitional milestones.

We are excited to invite a passionate One to One Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team! This full-time role runs Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 16:30, during term time only. While primarily based at one site, you may also support local PE venues and college settings.

Your Responsibilities

As a vital member of our team, you will work closely with the Headteacher and class teachers to:

  • Embrace our Therapeutic Approach: Align your work with the therapeutic methods adopted at Apple Orchard.
  • Facilitate Learning: Help the pupil learn effectively in both group and individual settings by:
    • Clarifying and explaining instructions.
    • Ensuring the pupil can use provided equipment and materials.
    • Motivating and encouraging the pupil with tailored support.
  • Support Development: Assist in areas such as speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, and handwriting.
  • Encourage Focus: Use praise and guidance to help the pupil concentrate and stay on task.
  • Collaborate: Liaise with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals regarding Individual Personal Education Plans (PEPs).
  • Provide Nurture: Offer additional support to individuals as requested.
  • Implement Strategies: Consistently apply agreed behavior management strategies.
  • Build Relationships: Establish supportive connections with the pupil.
  • Promote Inclusion: Encourage acceptance and interaction among pupils with SEN.
  • Adapt Activities: Monitor and modify learning activities to achieve desired outcomes.
What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should possess:

  • A minimum of GCSE A-C or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • A Level 3 or above Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by students with Emotional, Behavioural, or Social needs.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a close-knit team.
  • Desirable: Experience in a specialist environment.
