Job Description
OVERVIEW
Project Diakonia provides employment support, job training, and job placement services to at-risk young adults (ages 17-24). The Construction Skills Instructor has the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of students through instruction, support, and mentorship as you deliver high-quality construction pre-apprenticeship training.
The Construction Skills Instructor will be part of a growing team of individuals who want to see students thrive in a variety of trades-related careers. As the Construction Skills Instructor, you will teach students the importance of job site safety, how to perform math functions required by specific trades, and how to identify, operate, and maintain the basic standard tools and materials of the building trades.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instruction: Provide direct oversight of classroom/lab instruction; teach students job site safety, math functions for specific trades, and tool identification/maintenance.
- Mentorship: Develop positive relationships with students and promote engagement with the curriculum to ensure they stay excited about their future.
- Operations: Track and report program progress and outcomes; monitor inventory of equipment and training materials.
- Safety: Supervise and enforce all safety protocols within the shop environment.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional construction experience.
- Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Background: Prior experience in teaching, coaching, or mentoring is preferred.
- Mission-Fit: Experience working with disadvantaged or at-risk individuals.
- Tech Savvy: Proficient with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Physical: Ability to safely perform essential job functions, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
HOURS & OPPORTUNITY
- Part-time: Monday - Wednesday, 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM (15 hours/week).
- Growth: This position has the potential to convert to full-time based on organizational needs and performance.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Pay Range: $28.00 – $34.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Benefits: In accordance with Colorado law, part-time employees accrue paid sick leave under the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA) at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked. This position is also covered under the Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program.
