Design Release Engineer (DRE)
to take charge of defining requirements and executing designs with GM and supplier hardware engineering teams. You will lead software engineering collaborations, testing, validation efforts, and manage engineering projects for pivotal electronic modules focused on SDV2.0 Aggregator and Extender technologies. Your creativity and initiative will be vital in resolving complex problems, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative data. This role also involves guiding other engineers and may include overseeing a small team to achieve focused engineering objectives. You will be instrumental in developing strategic solutions aligned with business initiatives. Responsibilities Define and release Aggregator and Extender modules, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
Oversee the packaging and mounting of components across various vehicle programs.
Prepare component hardware and software timing plans to meet program schedules and material deadlines.
Lead a cross-functional Product Development Team (PDT) to facilitate product development and integration into vehicles.
Ensure adherence to all vehicle Program Imperatives, including cost, investment, weight, and content standards.
Create and approve Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) for component releases and part numbers.
Investigate design alternatives and respond promptly to Change Requests (CRs).
Act as a Validation Engineer to create and execute component validation plans on time to meet program imperatives.
Participate in Formal Design, Peer, and Quality Valve reviews as mandated by the Vehicle Development Process (VDP).
Review and approve revisions to Owner/Service Manuals and Customer Information Cards for accuracy.
Approve all In-process Electrical test plans.
Determine ALDL/DVT/Diagnostic Tool requirements for all new major components.
Support vehicle integration for pre-production and production vehicles.
Collaborate with the Senior System Safety Engineer to develop the system safety plan per the GM System Safety Engineering Process.
Lead issue resolution for design and development challenges, including ECU warranty analysis.
Work within a Scaled Agile product delivery team, ensuring continuous prioritization and delivery of component features.
Requirements Proven knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (Ethernet, CAN, LIN, E-Fuse).
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.
At least 5 years of experience applying microprocessor-based controllers (MCU) in automotive electrical systems.
Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and independent work.
Demonstrated technical and professional capabilities in relevant areas.
Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
Proficient problem-solving abilities in complex system contexts.
Strong interpersonal skills to influence and work with diverse stakeholders.
Desired Skills Master's degree in Engineering.
Advanced knowledge of Electronic Hardware and Circuit Design.
Exceptional program management skills.
Previous experience with the automotive product release and specification process.
Understanding of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming concepts.
Good grasp of hardware design and potential failure modes in electronic modules.
Proficiency in writing and interpreting software/hardware requirements.
Strong knowledge of software verification/validation processes.
Experience with hardware validation processes and understanding of automotive EMC requirements.
Experience performing system and component level DFMEAs.
Familiarity with DFSS methodologies.
