Quality Assurance Intern
Zentis is Europe's number one fruit processing company and one of the leading brand manufacturers of jams, sweets, and custard-based desserts. The company's North America operations are located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Plymouth, Indiana, where we produce fruit and dairy preparations for a variety of customers including yogurt, ice cream and bakery manufacturers. We are currently looking to recruit a QA Intern for our Philadelphia location. This is an on-site position. Zentis is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Quality Assurance Intern to join our QA team. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain real-time experience in food safety, quality systems, and manufacturing process controls within a high-volume food production environment. The QA intern will work closely with QA technicians and cross-functional partners to support daily quality operations. This role provides exposure to critical food manufacturing programs such as HACCP, GMPs, environmental monitoring, document control, and product testing. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in food science, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, quality assurance, or regulatory affairs who want to build practical industry experience that will strengthen their academic and professional development. Primary Responsibilities: Perform routine analytical tests on in-process and finished product samples (e.g., brix, pH, viscosity, water activity) following established QA procedures. Assist in 24-hour sample analysis, documentation of test results, and verification of product adherence to specifications. Maintain accurate sample records and assist with sample preparation for customers or internal studies. Support the review, organization, and filing of QA documentation, including testing records, checklists, and calibration logs. Learn and assist in equipment calibration (e.g., pH meters, refractometers) under supervision. Help ensure QA records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready. Accompany QA technicians on the production floor to conduct online quality checks, monitor process controls, and observe product attributes. Assist in alerting QA or Production team members when deviations are observed, and help document hold procedures as appropriate (intern-level exposure, not decision-making responsibility). Participate in daily QA/Production communication related to testing updates and quality observation Conduct or support environmental swabbing (ATP, allergen, or microbiological swabs) to verify sanitation effectiveness. Learn about GMP audits, HACCP verification checks, and sanitation validations. Specific Experience and Key Knowledge Requirements: Actively pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Nutrition, Engineering, or a related field. Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation accuracy. Comfortable working both independently and on a fast-paced production floor. Familiarity with basic lab techniques or food testing procedures is a plus but not required. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Office365 (Excel, Word). Ability to stand/walk for portions of the shift and work on-site in Philadelphia, PA. Available for approximately 12 weeks; early start availability is a strong plus. EOE/M/F/H/V
