This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional to step into a leadership role within a fast-paced transport and logistics environment, supporting both operational performance and team development.
The Role Reporting directly to the Planning & Transport Manager, the Planning Team Lead will support management in overseeing daily planning operations while providing leadership and guidance to a busy planning team.
The role combines operational planning responsibilities with team supervision, ensuring freight movements are coordinated efficiently while maintaining excellent service standards.
Key Responsibilities Support the management of planners and administrative staff responsible for inbound and outbound freight movements Coordinate full and part-load domestic and international transport operations Plan, supervise, and manage the daily workflow of the Planning team Assist with maintaining appropriate staffing levels and operational coverage Provide leadership and guidance to the planning team, promoting strong service delivery Monitor demand volumes and ensure efficient allocation of resources Manage administrative processes and ensure operational documentation is maintained accurately Drive a culture of continuous improvement across planning operations Monitor team performance against agreed KPIs and implement actions to achieve targets Record operational statistics and prepare performance reports when required Manage complex customer enquiries and escalated service issues Collaborate with senior operations management to review performance data and improve efficiencies Maintain high standards of Health & Safety within the planning department Ensure high levels of system accuracy and data integrity within internal transport management systems Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will demonstrate: Previous experience in a similar planning or logistics leadership role Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities A balanced leadership style that combines structure with empathy Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and transport management systems The ability to motivate and guide a team in a fast-paced operational environment A proactive mindset with a strong focus on continuous improvement A positive, solution-oriented attitude Whats on Offer Competitive salary based on experience Performance-based bonus paid twice yearly Permanent position 21 days of annual leave with additional leave after 12 months service Company pension scheme Employee Assistance Programme Free on-site parking Opportunity for hybrid working following successful probation Career progression opportunities within a growing organisation Supportive and collaborative team environment Apply If you are an experienced planning professional looking to take the next step into a leadership role, we would love to hear from you.
