Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Prescription Processing
- Receive and process prescription orders (electronic, written, and verbal under pharmacist supervision)
- Enter prescription information accurately into pharmacy management software
- Prepare and label medications for pharmacist verification
- Perform medication counting, packaging, and compounding support (if applicable)
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Patient & Clinic Support
- Assist patients with prescription drop-off and pickup
- Provide excellent customer service and answer non-clinical medication questions
- Communicate with clinic providers regarding refill requests and clarifications
- Coordinate prior authorizations and insurance processing
- Support medication synchronization and adherence programs
Insurance & Billing
- Process third-party insurance claims
- Collect copays and process payments
- Maintain accurate billing documentation
Inventory Management
- Order medications and supplies from wholesalers
- Receive, stock, and rotate inventory
- Monitor expiration dates and remove outdated medications
- Maintain controlled substance logs and inventory records
Compliance & Operations
- Follow federal, state, and pharmacy board regulations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy workspace
- Assist with audits, inspections, and documentation requirements
- Support clinic workflow and collaborative healthcare delivery
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Active Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure (state-specific)
- Basic computer and data-entry skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in independent or clinic-based pharmacy
- Knowledge of pharmacy management systems
- Insurance billing and prior authorization experience
