Position Summary

Terry-Durin Company is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Inside Sales / Estimator to support our outside sales team and customers through accurate, timely, and profitable quotations. This role manages the quoting process from initial request through final submission. The ideal candidate will work closely with outside sales, customers, and manufacturers to develop competitive material estimates that drive profitable growth.


This is a full-time, in-office position based in Cedar Rapids.


This position is an excellent opportunity for a licensed electrician or experienced field professional who is looking to transition out of the field and into an office-based role while continuing to use their industry knowledge and expertise.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed material take-offs and cost estimates from customer plans and specifications
  • Review drawings and fixture schedules to build accurate bills of material
  • Request and analyze vendor pricing from manufacturers and representatives
  • Collaborate with outside sales, project managers, and customer service teams
  • Compare manufacturer quotes to ensure complete and accurate scope coverage
  • Identify value-engineering opportunities to increase competitiveness
  • Submit professional, timely quotations to customers
  • Follow up on open quotes and assist in converting bids to orders
  • Maintain accurate records in company systems


Qualifications

  • Licensed electrician or prior field experience in commercial/industrial electrical work strongly encouraged to apply
  • Experience reading construction drawings preferred
  • 2+ years in electrical distribution, construction estimating, or related field preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, spreadsheets, pricing analysis)
  • High school diploma required; Associate’s degree in Business or Construction-related field preferred


Preferred (Not Required)

  • Knowledge of ABB switchgear, panelboards, and power distribution equipment
  • Familiarity with lighting projects and utility rebate programs (such as Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy instant lighting rebates)
  • Existing relationships with electrical contractors in the Eastern Iowa market
  • Experience working with electrical manufacturers and factory representatives
