About The Role
The Senior Developer Experience Engineer is a role in our Camunda Ex(perience) team within Camunda's Product Engineering department. In this role, you will work to improve the experience for developers using our Camunda 8 stack, govern APIs (such as the Orchestration Cluster REST API), and shape and create development tools for Camunda 8, including native Camunda clients (existing: Java, JavaScript; planned: Python, C#) and test libraries (Camunda Process Test). You will help deliver a strong polyglot Developer Experience for our users.

What you’ll do after 3 months

  • Steer decision processes on API proposals
    
  • Address shortcomings in the current API Governance Process for cross-team collaboration
    
  • Extend Internal Developer Guidance on building new endpoints for our REST API
    
  
  
• SDK/Development tools
  
  • 
    
  • Set up automated QA for client artifacts (Java, JavaScript) and the system to ensure user-facing guarantees such as semVer Public API guarantees and compatibility
    
  • Contribute to the development of new native clients (e.g., Python or C#), including a job worker framework
    
  • Improve existing clients (Java, JavaScript) with quality-of-life improvements (e.g., a generic backoff mechanism)
    
  
  

Extend our Camunda Spring Boot Starter by implementing one of the open feature requests.

• 
  
• Ability and willingness to use our product
  
• Extensive experience (5+ years) writing and maintaining production code in Java, C#, JavaScript, or Python, with a strong view on what makes a good Developer Experience
  
• Extensive experience (3+ years) building coherent server APIs with OpenAPI and using language-specific code generators to create and maintain native clients
  
• Proven experience (3+ years) writing documentation, code samples, examples, videos, or blog posts for a developer community or external audience
  
• Ability to work asynchronously with teams across time zones to achieve a common goal
  
• Strong sense of owning your work and knowing when to ask for help to unblock yourself

We offer competitive compensation, with location-based salary ranges. The Annual Total Target Cash (base salary + 100% variable target, where applicable) spans from minimum to maximum values across Standard and Major markets. Final offers depend on skills, experience, and location.
