The Data Analyst is the engine behind our vision. Since we operate independently, we have the unique flexibility to tailor our services specifically to the needs of our local residents. This means we rely on precise data to make fast, smart decisions that keep our premium promise. You will support our mission by organizing the data systems that allow us to plan better routes, reduce wait times, and prove the value of our specialized services to the communities that we serve. Data Organization and Strategy
Set up the Data Warehouse:
Lead the design and implementation of a centralized data warehouse to pull together information from across the agency. Expand Our Data Universe:
Constantly look for new data sources to integrate into our systems to broaden our awareness and improve our understanding of regional trends. Select the Software Toolkit:
Evaluate, select, and manage the software systems and analytical tools used to process and visualize information. Define Reporting Styles:
Create agency-wide reporting standards to ensure every chart and table is professional, consistent, and easy to interpret. Systems Integration:
Support data integration between operational systems and reporting platforms while assisting IT in testing and implementing new system enhancements. Communication and Data Storytelling
Simplify the Complex:
Take technical data questions and turn them into clear, followable answers. You must make data fun, engaging, and non-intimidating for everyone. Persuasive Presentation:
Use findings to tell a compelling story. You will create and deliver high stakes presentations to leadership, boards, and other stakeholders. Public Speaking:
Represent our data in meetings and public forums, explaining concepts in a way that inspires confidence and action. Collaboration:
Partner with staff across departments to understand data needs and translate them into analytical solutions. Data Integrity and Proactive Analysis
Sandbox Exploration:
We expect you to play in the data. You should proactively identify findings and trends that may be missing from our current awareness and bring them to leadership's attention based on your professional opinion. Real-Time and Routine Reporting:
Ensure we have the necessary dashboards for real-time monitoring while producing regular reports and deep dives into key subjects. Own the Accuracy:
Maintain and update datasets, including passenger count and ridership records. Act as the primary person responsible for ensuring data integrity and documentation. Compliance:
Manage the accuracy of federally and state mandated reporting. Assist in developing data standards and best practices across the organization. Required Experience and Education
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of full-time professional experience in data analysis or business intelligence. Education:
Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Statistics. Degrees in other quantitative fields such as Economics or Mathematics may be considered when paired with strong technical experience in data management and reporting efficiency. Technical and Professional Skills
Data Organization and Efficiency (SQL plus Python or R):
You must be proficient in SQL to manage and pull data from our warehouse. Additionally, you need proficiency in either Python or R to clean messy transit data and create efficient, repeatable reporting workflows. Experience with BI tools:
You have experience connecting tools like Tableau or Power BI to data sources and creating dashboards from scratch. Advanced Presentation Tools:
Highly proficient in PowerPoint. You can design decks that are visually impactful and easy to follow. Building Data Systems:
Knowledge of how to set up a data warehouse and move data between systems. Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with occasional travel to transit facilities. Standard business hours with occasional extended hours to meet reporting deadlines.
