About the Sr. Analytics Engineer Upperline Health is looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer / Data Modeler
responsible for making organizational data usable, trustworthy, and easy to understand. This role defines shared metrics, builds and maintains the semantic layer, and publishes a searchable data dictionary so operators, product teams, and AI driven features can reliably self serve data without relying on tribal knowledge. The ideal candidate combines strong data modeling skills with a documentation first mindset and close cross functional collaboration.
What You'll Do Own and maintain the enterprise data dictionary and glossary, including definitions for core entities, fields, and key metrics. Design and build the semantic layer and curated analytics marts aligned to product and operational use cases (e.g., patient applications, internal operations). Ensure documentation completeness by maintaining dbt model and column descriptions for critical datasets and publishing them via dbt documentation. Partner with Data Engineering to ensure automated tests cover business-critical assumptions and core data invariants. Act as a steward of metric definitions and modeling standards to ensure consistency across downstream consumers. Partner with the
Data Engineering Lead
on canonical data modeling and shared metric implementation in dbt. Partner with
Operations and Product
teams to define KPIs, eligibility logic, and acceptance criteria for data products. Partner with the
Application Engineering Lead
to align event naming and operational analytics required for application monitoring and observability. Use dbt documentation mechanisms (model descriptions, column descriptions, and docs blocks) and publish dbt docs as a standard practice. Implement dbt tests for core assumptions and extend coverage with richer data quality checks where appropriate. Use dbt exposures to document downstream dependencies, including applications and machine-learning use cases. Qualifications of
the Sr. Analytics Engineer
Strong experience with analytics engineering or data modeling in a production analytics environment. Hands-on experience building semantic layers, curated marts, or governed analytics datasets. Strong proficiency with dbt, including models, tests, documentation, and exposures. Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, metric definitions, and business-logic abstraction. Experience collaborating with Data Engineering, Product, and Application Engineering teams. Documentation-first mindset with attention to clarity and shared understanding. Ability to translate business concepts into precise, governed data definitions. Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders. High ownership mentality for data quality, consistency, and trustworthiness. Pragmatic, iterative approach to improving data models and definitions over time. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Senior-level experience as an Analytics Engineer, Data Modeler, or in a closely related role.
