The Engineering Industries Ireland Executive will work with engineering industries Ireland member companies in relation to their policy agendas, in particular on technical policy and regulatory developments with a commercial impact on the engineering sector in Ireland.


The Executive will carry out the necessary tasks, in consultation with the Director of Engineering Industries Ireland to ensure the objectives of the engineering manufacturing and services sectors are met across a range of policy issues. The Executive will also work as an effective member of the Engineering Industries Ireland Association team.

About The Role
Primary Responsibilities

  • Secretariat to the sectoral working groups. Ensure meetings are held regularly, appropriate minutes and papers prepared, and action plans implemented.
  • Provide analysis and appropriate updates on key issues on policy and regulation to the groups, producing major reports and other outputs where appropriate. These issues may include (non-exhaustive) innovation, sustainability, people, and regulation.
  • Support the Director of Engineering with lobbying and representation activities on behalf of member companies on environment and sustainability issues at national and European level.
  • Develop contacts and network with relevant policy and technical contacts in all relevant Government departments and state agencies.
  • Liaise with relevant European Sectoral Associations, if relevant to existing sector initiatives
  • Communication with member companies on a range of relevant policy issues
  • Drafting of letters, submissions, and position papers prior to circulation to members for approval
  • Preparation of newsletters and content for digital communications
  • Be an active member of the overall Engineering Industries Ireland Team ensuring the objectives of the sector are met.
  • Carry out other duties as identified and agreed with the Director of Engineering Industries Ireland that are in keeping with the overall strategy of the association, which can be expanded beyond environmental sustainability.

About You
Qualifications, skills and experience
Qualifications

  • Primary degree in a relevant discipline – for example business, sustainability, politics
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications an advantage

Knowledge (Desirable)

  • Business, social and environmental issues facing the engineering sector and its supply chain in Ireland, EU and globally
  • The Irish, EU and international policy and regulatory context and its implications for the engineering sector
  • Role of national and EU government and agencies in policy making and regulation and an understanding of the issues that shape legislative and regulatory policy Experience
  • Ideally 2+ years relevant post graduate experience (relevant – industry, sustainability, or public affairs/policy)
  • Experience of working with committees/working groups
  • Working in a busy and dynamic team environment; comfortable taking on varying team roles

Skills

  • Ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders and manage the complexities involved
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and oral including public speaking ability
  • Ability to review and interpret complex information and present it in summary form
