Senior Tunnelling Engineer

This role will provide specialist tunnelling expertise to assess and respond to early-stage proposals associated with future infrastructure projects. Ensure all technical, operational, and delivery requirements are clearly represented as part of all major tunnelling programmes.

• Review tunnelling documentation, including feasibility studies, route assessments, construction methodologies, and programme assumptions.
  
• Provide clear, evidence-based technical feedback to protect engineering and operational interests.
  
• Coordinate and consolidate input from various stakeholders form a consistent organisational position.
  
• Identify technical risks, constraints, and information gaps, recommending areas for further investigation and assurance.
  
• Assess constructability and delivery impacts on existing and future infrastructure sites
  
• Support organisational readiness by identifying capability, resourcing, and procedural requirements for large-scale tunnelling delivery.
  
• Prepare concise technical briefings and reports to inform internal decision-making.
  

• 
  
• 10+ years’ experience in tunnelling and/or geotechnical engineering across project lifecycle stages.
  
• Strong expertise in soil and rock mechanics, ground investigation, and ground behaviour analysis.
  
• In-depth knowledge of modern tunnelling methods (TBMs, cut-and-cover, microtunnelling), dewatering, grouting, and waterproofing systems.
  
• Proven experience reviewing and constructively challenging third-party tunnelling proposals and methodologies.
  
• Excellent stakeholder coordination and communication skills within multi-disciplinary infrastructure environments.
  
• Chartered Engineer status (Engineers Ireland or equivalent). xcfaprz
