A leading main contractor specialising in large-scale data centre and pharmaceutical developments is seeking an experienced Design Manager (Civil & Structural) to join its project team in Kildare.

This is a key leadership role responsible for managing the full design lifecycle across complex, high-specification builds. The successful candidate will bring strong civil and structural expertise, combined with proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams on technically demanding projects.

• Lead and manage the civil & structural design process from pre-construction through to handover
  
• Coordinate consultants, subcontractors, and specialist designers to ensure timely and compliant design delivery
  
• Act as the primary interface between the design team and construction operations
  
• Review and manage design documentation, drawings, specifications, and technical submissions
  
• Drive design compliance with Irish Building Regulations, Eurocodes, and project-specific standards
  
• Identify and mitigate design risks, ensuring buildability and cost-efficiency
  
• Oversee value engineering and technical optimiser exercises
  
• Ensure integration of structural systems with MEP and architectural requirements
  
• Support BIM coordination and digital design management processes
  
• Contribute to programme planning, tracking key design deliverables against project milestones
  
• Assist in client presentations, technical meetings, and reporting

• Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
  
• 8+ years’ experience in civil/structural design and project delivery
  
• Strong experience on large-scale projects, ideally:
  
• Hyperscale or co-location data centres
  
• Pharmaceutical or life sciences facilities
  
• Background working with a main contractor or major design consultancy
  
• Excellent understanding of reinforced concrete, steel structures, foundations, and groundworks
  
• Strong knowledge of Eurocodes and Irish construction regulations
  
• Proven ability to manage multiple design packages simultaneously
  
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams within fast-track environments
  
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of construction sequencing
  
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership
  
• Experience in GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environments
  
• Familiarity with BIM platforms (Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360)
  
• Experience with temporary works design coordination
