A Senior GP Role With Real Clinical Influence

Veterinary Practitioner – Small Animal

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced small animal vet to join a well‑established Dublin practice where your clinical skills, particularly in surgery, will be genuinely valued.

Anicare Clontarf is looking for a confident first‑opinion Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys autonomy, variety and being an integral part of a close, supportive team. This role is best suited to someone comfortable managing their own caseload and contributing to the day‑to‑day clinical flow of a busy GP practice.

If you’re a surgically confident clinician, or someone who would enjoy taking more ownership of the surgical side of the practice, there is real scope here to shape the role around that interest.

The Role at a Glance

You’ll work a four‑day week, with one in three weekends, across a 40‑hour week. Shift patterns are flexible and designed with sustainability in mind. There is no out‑of‑hours or on‑call work, allowing you to maintain a healthy work–life balance while still enjoying a varied and rewarding caseload.

This is a true first‑opinion GP role with a well‑balanced mix of medical and surgical cases, though the practice would ideally suit someone with a stronger interest or experience in surgery. For the right candidate, there is also the opportunity to help drive and develop surgical activity within the clinic.

A Practice Where Experience Matters

Anicare Clontarf is a modern, well‑equipped small animal practice with digital radiography, orthopaedic tools and a loyal, long‑standing client base. You’ll be working alongside a friendly and experienced team of four vets, four nurses and three support staff, in an environment that values collaboration, open communication and good clinical standards.

This role is not suitable for new graduates or those requiring close mentoring in routine medicine or surgery. Instead, it’s ideal for a vet with a solid foundation in first‑opinion practice who is ready to work with confidence and independence.

Part of a Wider, Supportive Group

Anicare is one of Dublin’s longest‑established veterinary groups, with practices in Clontarf, Santry, Blanchardstown and Glasnevin. Across the group, you’ll have access to a wider clinical network of experienced vets, including certificate holders, allowing for internal referrals, collaboration and professional support without losing the close‑knit feel of your home practice.

Develop Your Interests, Not Just Fill a Rota

Whether you want to deepen your surgical confidence, refine your GP skills, or take on more clinical responsibility over time, this role offers flexibility and support to help you grow in the direction that suits you. CPD and further development are actively encouraged, and for experienced vets who want to make their mark, there is room here to influence how the practice evolves clinically.

Applicant Requirements

This position is suited to a VCI‑registered veterinary surgeon with at least a few years’ experience in first‑opinion small animal practice, who is confident in consultations and routine surgery and comfortable working with a degree of autonomy. You should be clinically confident, reliable, and happy to take ownership of your work.

Rewarding You Properly (subject to pro‑rata for part‑time)

Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package (subject to pro‑rata), including:

  • 22 days annual leave plus birthday leave
  • No out‑of‑hours or Sunday work
  • Paid maternity, paternity, and adoptive leave packages
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme and Wellbeing Centre
  • Company sick pay and paid bereavement leave

Development & Career Growth

  • €1,300 annual CPD allowance with 5 days paid CPD leave (pro‑rata)
  • Fully funded certificates, diplomas, or PhDs
  • Career progression opportunities, clinical and non‑clinical
  • Access to internal mentorship and development programmes

Financial & Professional Support

  • VCI membership and VDS cover paid

Annual pay reviews

  • Employer pension contributions
  • Dedicated CARE fund – €1,100 annual contribution per vet to use on a case of your choice
  • Discounted veterinary fees across the IVC Evidensia network
  • Pawesome Benefits – retail discounts and cashback options

Is This Your Next Step?

If you’re an experienced small animal vet looking for a well‑structured, supportive GP role with flexibility, strong clinical standards and the opportunity to have real input, Anicare Clontarf could be a great fit.
