A physician assistant (PA) has a variety of responsibilities that support urologists and patients. Their duties include:
* Patient care: Performing physical exams, taking patient histories, and gathering medical data
* Diagnostic testing: Ordering and interpreting tests such as urine, blood, imaging, and X-rays
* Treatment: Prescribing medications, giving injections, suturing wounds, and performing surgical procedures
* Treatment plans: Developing plans of care, and educating patients about treatment options
* Support: Consulting with physicians, and referring patients to physicians for more complicated cases
* Continuity of care: Monitoring therapies, and responding to emergencies using ACLS protocols
* Preventative care: Advising patients on preventative care and optimal health practices
Experience:
- Strong patient assessment skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medication administration
- Coding experience for accurate billing
- Background in internal medicine is advantageous
