Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program is delivering more GO service across the network, including the capacity to deliver two-way service every 15 minutes or better on core routes. Work is already underway on new track, station renovations and infrastructure upgrades on parts of the Lakeshore, Stouffville, Kitchener and Barrie lines. The investment will generate thousands of new jobs and economic opportunities across the region. The ONxpress Civil Joint Venture is comprised of Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd. This multidisciplinary team leads the delivery of civil and track works, leveraging global expertise to introduce innovative solutions across the GO Transit network.

Opportunity
ONxpress Transportation Partners is looking for a Health, Safety and Security Advisor to join the Health, Safety and Security team. Reporting to the Construction HSS Manager, this role is to promote and supervise site safety through investigations, site inspections, to provide direction and support for all supervisors regarding their responsibilities for maintaining safety discipline, ensure all workplace parties fulfill their responsibilities for the HSS program, have good working knowledge of WSIB policies and assist in the management of worker’s compensation claims.
What you will do:
- Hazard Assessment and Management: Conducting comprehensive hazard assessments of construction sites and implementing measures to mitigate health, safety and security risks to ensure the safety of all workers and visitors.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all construction activities comply with relevant health and safety regulations, codes, and standards set forth by local authorities and regulatory bodies.
- Training and Education: Providing training sessions and educational materials to construction workers and site managers on safety protocols, procedures, and best practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Supporting Incident Investigation and Reporting: Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses on construction sites, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future. They also ensure that all incidents are accurately documented and reported as per regulatory requirements.
- Safety Inspections and Audits: Conducting regular inspections and audits of construction sites to assess compliance with safety standards, identify potential hazards, and recommend corrective actions to improve safety performance.
- Safety Planning and Implementation: Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive site-specific health and safety plans for construction projects. They support the implementation of these plans, monitor progress, and adjust as necessary to ensure ongoing safety throughout the project lifecycle.
What you bring:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a heavy civil construction Health and Safety position.
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
- Completed or working towards a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification is considered an asset.
- A valid G-class driver's license is a must.
- Experience working on rail construction projects is an asset. Familiar with rail construction terminology
- Strong knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, and legislation.
- Ability to effectively communicate and present information to project management teams, subcontractors, and clients as required
- Ability to respond to unanticipated events.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Expected compensation for this role is between $75, ,000.00 annually. Base salaries are determined according to multiple factors including skills, experience and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into consideration. In addition to base salary ONxpress also offers a comprehensive medical and dental program, RRSP with company matching and the potential to participate in our discretionary, performance based bonus program.
