About the Project

The Connect 6ix project is a consortium-led contract responsible for delivering the Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM) package for the Ontario Line — a new 15.6 km rapid transit subway running across Toronto. This includes the trains, signaling, communications systems, and the operations and maintenance facility. Connect 6ix will also operate and maintain the line for 30 years.

About the Job

We are seeking a Senior Structural Steel Coordinator to join our Connect 6ix Project.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Coordinate the scope, fabrication, delivery, and erection sequencing of structural steel framing systems including columns, wide flange beams, bracing, connection assemblies, and composite metal deck.
  • Lead structural steel coordination from shop drawing reviews through fabrication, delivery, erection, decking installation, and slab integration.
  • Interface with Engineering to ensure timely release of IFC drawings, steel connection details, erection drawings, and steel design clarifications.
  • Review and manage structural steel shop drawings including base plates, anchor rod layouts, moment and shear connections, field weld details, bracing systems, and composite deck coordination.
  • Coordinate steel-to-concrete interface activities including anchor rod placement, embed alignment, and foundation tolerances to ensure erection readiness.
  • Act as the primary day-to-day point of contact for structural steel fabricators and erectors during fabrication and erection phases.
  • Monitor fabrication progress, track material certifications, and coordinate delivery sequencing to support erection workflow.
  • Work closely with superintendents to plan erection sequencing, crane utilization, lift planning, temporary bracing, bolt-up strategy, metal deck installation, and readiness for slab pours.
  • Facilitate coordination between structural steel works and architectural, mechanical, electrical, fireproofing, and roofing trades to prevent interface conflicts.
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario Building Code requirements and applicable CSA standards for structural steel design, fabrication, welding, bolting, and erection.
  • Coordinate inspection and verification of bolted connections, field welding, shear stud installation, and metal deck fastening prior to concrete placement.
  • Coordinate third-party inspections including bolt torque testing, weld inspections, and required steel compliance documentation.
  • Support RFI resolution, field revisions, connection modifications, and change management related specifically to structural steel scope.
  • Track structural steel milestones including framing completion, decking installation, and composite slab readiness.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify plumbness, alignment, bolt tensioning, weld quality, and compliance with specified erection tolerances.
  • Promote strong safety practices specific to structural steel erection including working at heights, crane coordination, and controlled access zones.
  • Support timely submission of structural steel as-built drawings, inspection records, and closeout documentation.
  • Coordinate daily structural steel site activities to ensure work is executed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and schedule.
  • Perform general site inspections to monitor workmanship quality, installation compliance, and adherence to project standards.
  • Track and report structural steel installation progress, identifying delays, risks, and recovery actions as required.
  • Support the Structural Package Manager in coordinating structural steel activities, reporting progress, and resolving technical and site issues.
  • Support the identification, review, and resolution of NCRs related to the structural steel scope, ensuring proper corrective measures are implemented and documented.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents to develop and enforce the MEPI plan, ensuring all site activities are carried out in accordance with the established execution plan.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • 5–7+ years of direct experience coordinating conventional building structural steel fabrication and erection.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing steel shop drawings, connection details, erection sequencing plans, and steel-to-concrete interface coordination.
  • Strong understanding of wide flange framing systems, bracing assemblies, moment and shear connections, and composite metal deck systems.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and applicable CSA standards related to structural steel design and welding.
  • Experience coordinating structural steel fabricators and erectors on large-scale commercial, industrial, institutional, or transit facility projects.
  • Strong understanding of erection sequencing, temporary stability, crane planning, and steel installation tolerances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project controls tools (e.g., MS Project or Primavera).
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam and AutoCAD for steel shop drawing review.
  • Strong knowledge of safety requirements related to steel erection and lifting operations.
  • Strong organizational, technical review, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder coordination abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on resolving steel-related issues before impacting schedule.
