Data Lake Architect

We’re hiring a Senior Data Architect to build a modern data lake/lakehouse from the ground up. This is a genuine greenfield programme with an ambitious start-up. This role is perfect for somebody who loves a start-up environment and taking ownership end-to-end.

• Architect and deliver a greenfield enterprise data lake/lakehouse end to end.
  
• Design the storage, processing and query layers using open-source engines such as Trino, Apache Spark and Apache Flink, alongside modern table formats including Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake or Apache Hudi.
  
• Leverage platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks where commercially appropriate within a hybrid architecture.
  
• Map and consolidate multiple internal and external data sources, defining ingestion, transformation and quality frameworks.
  
• Implement robust governance, security and GDPR-aligned permissions across the platform.
  
• Translate business requirements into practical architecture and delivery plans.
  
• Own delivery from design through to implementation.
  
• Build strong foundations to support analytics, operational workflows and future AI/ML use cases.

• Proven track record building multi-source data lakes or lakehouses from scratch.
  
• Strong expertise across open-source data technologies (Trino, Spark, Flink) and modern lakehouse formats (Iceberg, Delta, Hudi).
  
• Experience integrating or complementing with commercial platforms such as Snowflake and/or Databricks.
  
• Deep understanding of object storage architectures underpinning data lakes (S3-compatible storage, Azure Blob, GCS, etc.).
  
• Practical experience implementing governance, metadata management, lineage and GDPR-compliant access frameworks.
  
• Ability to operate effectively in a start-up or scale-up environment, comfortable with pace, ownership and evolving requirements. xcfaprz
  
• Exposure to AI/ML data foundations (feature engineering, training datasets, serving layers) is advantageous.
