We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a highly motivated, results-driven Senior Automation Engineer to join a growing engineering team. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity offering a competitive remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, commissioning, and support of automation control systems across a broad range of industries, using modern and cutting-edge technologies. This role requires a strong technical background, the ability to take ownership of projects, and the confidence to work independently while also contributing within a team environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the specification, development, installation, and validation of automation projects in line with budget and corporate guidelines
  • Develop software for bespoke machines and manufacturing systems
  • Lead system design, standard library development, programming, simulation, testing, and commissioning
  • Engage with customers to define and interpret technical requirements
  • Assess existing systems, technologies, and processes and propose improvements
  • Design and deliver high-quality automation solutions
  • Provide technical support to operations and project teams
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers
  • Produce detailed project documentation and manage change control processes
  • Work independently while managing multiple tasks and tight deadlines
  • Take full ownership of assigned projects from concept through delivery
  • Maintain a positive, proactive, and solution-focused approach

Qualifications & Experience

  • Third-level qualification in Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 5+ years’ industry experience in automation or control systems
  • Experience with one or more of the following is preferred: Rockwell Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Siemens TIA Portal / Step 7, OSI PI Historian, VBA

  • Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP is an advantage
  • Cisco Networking, VMware, or equivalent certifications are advantageous
  • Knowledge of robotics and safety standards is beneficial
  • Strong understanding of automation principles and industry best practices
  • Confident, professional individual with excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
