Role Overview
As a Senior Product Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing innovative products while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, such as BSEN standards and CE marking requirements. You will create and optimise production drawings, develop programmes for manufacturing, and collaborate closely with internal teams. The role also involves research and development, project work, and the opportunity to drive innovation in an expanding family-owned business.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design and Development
Design and develop new products, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, including BSEN standards and CE marking requirements. Seek opportunities for new product development by researching market needs and material advancements. Enhance and refine existing products for improved functionality, cost-efficiency, and quality. Contribute to research and development (R&D) efforts, driving innovation and keeping Trueline Products at the forefront of the industry.
CAD and CAM
Create detailed product drawings and specifications using varied CAD/CAM packages, including SolidWorks. Develop production programmes for machinery, ensuring seamless transition from design to manufacturing. Liaise with surveyors and estimators to produce accurate, production-ready drawings that meet project specifications. Liaise with surveyors, estimators and production to meet tight deadlines, whilst consistently producing quality documents. Continuously improve design and CAD workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Manufacturing Collaboration
Work closely with production teams to ensure designs align with the capabilities of sheet metal and fabrication machinery. Provide technical support and collaborate on optimising production workflows for various manufacturing equipment. Leverage experience from different manufacturing industries to introduce best practices and innovative approaches.
Project Work and Operational Support
Participate in project-based initiatives, from initial concept through to final production. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including surveying, production, and operations, to deliver projects on time and within scope. Ensure seamless integration of design files and manufacturing programmes to support production efficiency.
Qualifications / Experience Required
Engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification. Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, with experience in SolidWorks and SigmaNest and a variety of other CAD/CAM packages. A minimum of 2 years experience working with a variety of sheet metal and fabrication machinery. A minimum of 2 years experience in programming CNC machine tools, preferably Laser Cutters and / or Punching Machines. Knowledge of diverse manufacturing industries, with the ability to adapt designs to different production methods. Familiarity with relevant industry regulations, including BSEN standards and CE marking requirements. Strong technical skills in programming for manufacturing and creating production-ready drawings. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to innovation.
