Job Summary:
Avia NG is seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Project Manager to support the planning, design, and construction of a major airport capital project for a client.
This role works collaboratively across multiple offices and disciplines, balancing in‑person design and construction assignments with virtual coordination and project management activities.
You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from planning and design through construction and closeout. This role will be critical in ensuring seamless technical coordination and design interfacing across various engineering projects. The ideal candidate will work alongside engineers, designers, and project managers to manage project timelines, deliverables, and communication between design and construction teams, ensuring that project milestones are met efficiently and within scope.
Your role will be to support the Project Lead in the delivery of an aviation – coastal engineering project, working within active airport environment.
As a Project Manager you will work alongside Project Leads and other project managers, architects, engineers, and aviation specialists to support the design and coordination of airport building and aviation related facilities.
You will manage the development and coordination and review of design submissions, drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, technical reports, and presentations, with a strong emphasis on maintaining design intent and constructability within an airport environment, aligned with the project scope. This includes coordination of multidisciplinary design teams and ensuring alignment between architectural, engineering, operational, and regulatory requirements.
You will help with document control requirements, track decisions, prepare meeting materials, and support the resolution of design and coordination issues that arise from working in live construction and aviation environments.
As project moves into implementation, you will also support construction phase services, including assistance with RFIs responses, document control, Change Orders management, payment certifications, and site reviews, helping ensure construction aligns with approved designs and aviation operational requirements.
This role is well suited to someone interested in aviation as well as construction, who enjoys collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, and developing practical, buildable solutions within the realities of airport operations.
Technical Coordination:
- Serve as a liaison between Client, design teams, contractors, and technical stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects.
- Assist in the preparation, review, and monitoring of project plans, schedules, specifications and budgets.
- Coordinate site investigations, technical assessments, and other engineering-related activities.
- Ensure technical specifications, requirements, and construction plans align with project objectives.
- Address any technical issues that arise during the project lifecycle by working closely with engineers and contractors.
Design Interface Management:
- Facilitate the exchange of information between owners, stakeholders, the design teams, engineers, and contractors.
- Ensure design deliverables meet project requirements and are in compliance with regulations and standards.
- Monitor the progress of design work, ensuring that milestones and deadlines are met.
- Assist in the coordination of design modifications or changes throughout the project, ensuring timely updates to all stakeholders.
Project Support:
- Provide administrative and logistical support for the project team, including preparing documentation, reports, and meeting minutes and summaries.
- Maintain a comprehensive project schedule and provide regular updates on project progress.
- Track and manage project documentation, ensuring compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Organize project meetings, workshops, and coordination sessions, ensuring timely follow-up on action items.
- Be onsite during construction to ensure that the construction is progressing as per the schedule and monitor any design and construction issues.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Project Lead and other Project Managers and senior technical staff to ensure the project remains on schedule and within budget.
- Ensure clear communication between all internal and external stakeholders, providing updates on design, scheduling, and technical issues.
- Manage and resolve any coordination challenges between design, engineering, and construction teams.
Specific tasks include:
- Contract administration duties for infrastructure projects including but not limited to the preparation of budget/schedule updates, progress payment certificates, shop drawing review, site instructions, change orders, commissioning inspections, etc.
- Provide QA/QC for in-progress and completed designs as well as during construction phase of the project.
- Inspect project sites and evaluate contractor work to determine compliance with Contract Documents
- Support Project Lead with planning and coordination by managing daily design and construction tasks, deliverables, coordinating communication, preparing and issuing meeting notes and project documentation.
- Assist design teams in the development and preparation of figures, design drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, technical reports, etc.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current Transport Canada, ICAO, FAA, and related standards and recommended practices
- Enhance knowledge of requirements of reviewing agencies such as NAV CANADA, Transport Canada, Municipalities, Airport Authorities, Aviation Regulatory Agencies, etc.
- Design of new runways, taxiways, aprons, airside service roads, airside commercial developments including associated site servicing, grading, earthworks and stormwater management
What do we need from you?
Our best fit for this role would be a self-starter 5-year civil engineer who has experience in civil engineering design or project engineering, and is known for seeing ahead of the curve, getting in front of problems before they arise.
Additional skills and experience we are seeking:
- Motivated Project Manager or P. Eng. or equivalent experience with up to 5 to 10 years of progressive construction and project experience, including hands-on field experience in the construction industry and a demonstrated understanding of construction terminology, sequencing, scheduling, cost control, and site coordination processes.
- Demonstrated experience and/or interest in civil engineering, design or project coordination/management on active construction projects, including involvement in construction documentation, RFIs, Change management, site meetings, and contractor coordination, preferably within the aviation or transportation infrastructure sector.
- Strong communication and report writing skills and ability to prioritize/manage multiple project timelines in a fast-paced construction environment
- Proficient with MS Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and AutoCAD 2D, experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, construction software (e.g. Procore, Primavera, MS Project) is considered to be an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Valid Driver’s license
- Topographic survey experience, geotechnical/pavement design knowledge are considered assets
This role requires regular on-site attendance and may include occasional night-time work.
