Quick read - ACEC-BC Policy Analyst:

We are looking for a new team member to join as Policy Analyst, supporting us to advance the business of consulting engineering in BC. This role is ideal for someone who is interested in how policy, legislation, and business practices influence consulting engineering companies and their people.

We are looking for a teammate with strong research and interpretative skills, who can support us by informing and crafting relevant content for members and for us in communicating with partners. The role is ideal for a confident and curious person, who enjoys navigating policy, legislation, and regulation to develop meaningful insights and priorities.

If you are looking to join an organization that puts collaboration, innovative thinking, and community at the forefront of everything we do, this may be the perfect role for you.

What you will do:

We are a small team, and each of us have tasks that we own and tasks that we share with each other. You will primarily work with the CEO, advisors, and members to identify advocacy areas of focus and to help inform our response. Your role will evolve based on your interests, experience, capacity, and how you would like to learn and grow.

Some examples of what you may do:

Connecting the dots – you listen, ask good questions, connect with key partners and members, and monitor relevant media to identify engagement opportunities and trends and help develop responses that are impactful and timely.

Digging deeper – you have the research capacity to identify, understand, and interpret policy, regulation, and legislation, and you can communicate complex information succinctly and meaningfully for different audiences.

Partner – you will be a key partner for the CEO, assisting with research and writing, and ensuring she is well informed to lead. This may include preparing briefing notes, presentation content, and drafting member and partner communications as well as identifying, evaluating, and recommending advocacy positions.

Your experience and approach to work:

You are trustworthy, respectful, and socially comfortable working with our team, members, and key partners. You demonstrate sound judgement and an understanding for the consequences of your work.

You are a self-starter – you have integrity; a track record of making plans and delivering on promises. You are confident in your ability and can balance competing priorities.

You are curious – you are open, respectful, and seek to understand. You love to learn and work collaboratively seeking and valuing different perspectives to inform your work.

You adapt – you are comfortable, respectful, and credible when engaging with teammates, members, and partners. You seek and foster relationships that are relevant to your work and bring value to our members. You are as comfortable working alone as you are working alongside the team in the office or at events.

You are “tech confident” – you have experience with standard business tools and open to working with new or different digital tools.

You have relevant experience – any relevant experience is an asset, and we are particularly interested to hear from candidates who have any of the following experiences:

-       Any role in or with our industry (consulting engineering) that provides insight into the business,

-       As a member of a political staff team or supporting senior government leadership,

-       Researching and interpreting policy or legislation, whether for a political party, an industry association, or other relevant organization,

-       Journalism or professional communications consulting.

Although not required, we feel that the industry and membership are sufficiently technical to warrant the need for an undergraduate degree in a relevant field as well as previous experience or demonstrated capacity to perform the role with minimal supervision.

You probably have education and other skills and experience not listed here and we are interested to better understand you and your aspirations. As a small team the most important candidate attributes are complimentary skills and experience, a connection with other team members, and we are committed to a team-based environment where each person can contribute and grow.

What we offer:

This is a new role, and so we’ll need a little time to better understand how you will fit in and the value you can bring to our members. Salary will be commensurate with experience, with a budgeted annual salary of $55,000 - $70,000. We offer comprehensive benefits including a HCSA, vacation, and support for training and professional fees.

Most of your work will be done during typical Mon - Fri business hours with some flexibility to manage personal commitments. From time-to-time, team members are asked to support work outside typical business hours, for example, when we host events. Occasional travel within BC may be part of the role.

Our office is in beautiful, downtown Vancouver and is well served by transit. There is secure bike storage on site, and plenty of parking nearby. When we are in the office we have a modern space, good coffee, and killer views. We are committed to ensuring team members have a healthy life balance, and we cherish the diverse voices on our team.

How to apply:

Qualified candidates are invited to submit their interest through LinkedIn (preferred) or by emailing . If you are applying by email, please help make it super easy to find your application by writing in the subject line “Attention CEO – I’m interested in the Policy Analyst role”. A cover letter or other sample of your writing is encouraged.

We welcome all candidates currently authorized to work in Canada who live in the local region. No relocation support is available, and although we don’t expect team members to be in the office everyday, the nature of this role will require one to two days a week in the office on an on-going basis.

We thank everyone who applies for their interest in ACEC-BC. We will respond to applicants we feel have the potential to be a good fit for the role. No follow-up by email or telephone is necessary.
