Job Purpose

As a member of the North American Packaging Development Team, the Packaging Development Co-op’s primary responsibility will be to provide technical assistance in areas related to packaging including - package material testing and lab work, cost savings identification, package development and troubleshooting for the entire North American team (Canada and US). Key internal customers also include Purchasing, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Engineering.


Key Duties & Responsibilities


  • Perform packaging material testing & evaluation according to established procedures in Laboratory setting.
  • Work in conjunction with the Packaging Services Team and Operations to understand and resolve any material and equipment performance issues. – troubleshooting, technical support, problem definition, interaction with the supplier and documentation of results.
  • Work with packaging suppliers to solve packaging challenges.
  • Help coordinate the technical development of packaging for new products.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a packaging specification database.
  • Assist in the ongoing Continuous Improvement program as required.


Education & Experience


  • Post-secondary education in Food Science, Packaging Science, Quality, Engineering (Food Science, Food Engineering and Chemical), or a related technical field.
  • The ideal candidate should have at least one related technical experience or internship in areas such as packaging development, packaging materials, quality, material testing, or food science/processing—ideally within the food and beverage industry.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of departments and functions within the company, (e.g. marketing, sales, operations, engineering, quality assurance and purchasing as well as with suppliers).
  • Strong analytical skills (computer literacy required).
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to focus on detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work independently and function as a strong team player.
  • Bilingual (English/French) skills are an asset.
