A well-established national retail organisation is looking to appoint an Assistant Merchandising Manager to support the performance of its product ranges across stores and online channels.

This position sits within the wider supply chain and commercial planning function and focuses on ensuring the right stock is in the right place at the right time. Working closely with buying, logistics and retail operations teams, the role will help shape inventory plans, monitor performance and support the ongoing development of merchandising processes.

The role suits someone who is commercially minded, analytical and comfortable working with large datasets to guide planning decisions.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will assist in managing the planning and control of inventory across a large product portfolio. You will contribute to forecasting, range planning and stock allocation decisions while supporting the wider merchandising team in maintaining strong availability and balanced stock levels across the business.

You will also play a role in developing reporting structures and improving how merchandising performance is measured and tracked.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of seasonal and ongoing inventory plans
  • Analyse stock performance and identify opportunities to improve availability and reduce excess inventory
  • Support demand forecasting and product level planning activity
  • Monitor stock allocation across multiple locations and adjust where necessary
  • Work with buying, supply chain and retail operations teams to align commercial plans with stock availability
  • Develop and track key metrics relating to stock productivity and planning performance
  • Contribute to projects aimed at improving merchandising tools, reporting and processes
  • Provide guidance and support to junior members of the merchandising team
  • Take ownership of day to day planning activity when senior team members are unavailable
Candidate Profile
  • Experience within merchandise planning, inventory management or commercial planning roles
  • Strong analytical capability and confidence working with large volumes of data

  • Ability to interpret trading performance and translate insights into actions
  • Experience working cross functionally with commercial and operational teams
  • Previous exposure to team leadership or mentoring is beneficial
  • Strong Excel capability and familiarity with planning or reporting tools
