Key Functions

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of forest road, bridge, and water crossing infrastructure supporting timberlands operations in the Grande Prairie area.

  • Develop and execute the Roads and Engineering roadmap in alignment with harvest plans, regulatory requirements, and operational priorities.

  • Plan and deliver road and water crossing projects in collaboration with Engineering, Biology, Planning, Operations, and external partners using a rolling two year planning horizon.

  • Manage gravel pit operations, including licensing, Government of Alberta reporting, MD levy assessments, crushing activities, reclamation, and access controls.

  • Lead contractor management activities, including contractor selection, rate negotiations, bid packages, contract drafting, renewals, insurance, and CSMS requirements.

  • Develop, manage, and track road budgets, including deferred road activities and IFP forecasting, ensuring cost effective delivery of road programs.

  • Oversee procurement of road related materials such as aggregates, culverts, bridges, stabilizers, dust suppressants, and signage.

  • Lead and develop the Roads team through regular meetings, one on ones , PMP processes, goal setting, and technical mentorship.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship through audit follow up , noxious weed control programs, water crossing monitoring and remediation, road use approvals, and spring road permitting.

  • Oversee bridge inspection and maintenance programs, winter road maintenance activities, and road condition reporting.

  • Drive innovation and automation by leading product and process trials, implementing digital inspection and reporting tools, and collaborating with research and technology partners.

  • Coordinate aerial monitoring programs, including wood yard flights and drone operations, ensuring compliance with Transport Canada requirements.

  • Represent the Grande Prairie operation on the functional Roads teams, supporting cross functional collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Engaging in developmental training opportunities to gain exposure to all aspects of our business

Qualifications:
  • Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist (RPFT) or eligible for registration

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in forestry or industrial road construction and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of Alberta regulatory requirements for roads, gravel pits, and water crossings preferred.

  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and contractors.

  • Strong budgeting, negotiation, and digital reporting skills.

  • Proactive safety leader with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems in a team or individually

  • Capability to prioritize work activities and assignments

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite/ArcGIS/Drone Deploy

Compensation : This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $88,531 - $128,459 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
