Über
The Generation Engineering department in Engineering and Major Projects is the Centre of Engineering for ESB’s generation businesses and provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients. This includes optimising the long-term performance of the Generation Assets through process performance optimisation and portfolio long‑term asset management, as well as continuously driving improvements in overhaul management, safety, technical and engineering standards, and the delivery of new power plant projects as part of the ESB Strategy on “Net Zero by 2040”. The department currently has an opportunity for a Senior Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join our Generation Engineering team. The successful candidate will support ESB in the delivery of Generation projects such as the development of new build zero and low‑carbon generation assets and the renewal of existing assets within ESB’s plant portfolio, and for international clients.

Key Responsibilities
- Acting as Lead C&I Engineer on select major capital greenfield or brownfield projects as required by the business.
- Managing C&I projects/work scopes from inception, specification, design reviews, procurement, validation, installation, commissioning, and handover to client.
- Providing specialist engineering services to support ESB Generation & Trading (GT) and external clients in Ireland and abroad in the area of Control & Instrumentation systems in power stations applying industry best practice, guidelines, and code of practices.
- Preparing Control and Instrumentation specifications and evaluating tenders from scope, quality, and technical perspective including associated internal or third‑party interfaces employed in greenfield or brownfield generation assets.
- Developing and maintaining technical and commercial knowledge both in self and junior colleagues of Control and Instrumentation systems and technologies of generating station assets, including OT Cybersecurity.
- Assessing the feasibility of Control and Instrumentation projects and provide options and solutions in line with project business cases.
- Assessing technical risk and promote best practice in relation to operational fleet of Control and Instrumentation generating station equipment, plant process control issues on manned or unmanned generation assets.
- Promoting and lead the safety management culture across all activities by taking ownership and demonstrating visible commitment to safety in all works/project stages and ensuring compliance with organisational quality procedures.
- Supporting fault investigations and root cause analysis concerning Control and Instrumentation system faults, or related plant trips, process control issues or other Control and Instrumentation related incidents. Ensuring appropriate inspection and remedial action.

Essential
- Have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant working experience in the generation sector or a comparable industry.
- Possess competence of generating plant Control and Instrumentation systems and applications including DCS and PLC systems, OT environment, HMI and control networks, field instrumentation and control devices, plant protection, safety systems and devices.
- Experience of operations and maintenance technologies, systems, procedures, and practices.
- Demonstrated experience with large and/or complex Control and Instrumentation works/projects.
- Demonstrated internal and external stakeholder management and project/scope co‑ordination involving multiple stakeholders, contractors or third parties.
- Self‑motivated individual with drive to professionally develop self and others and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure as relevant to Industrial Control Systems and the interfaces with other plant systems, third‑party systems or corporate networks.
- Well versed with Health, Safety and Environment Standards and procedures, including Risk Assessment and Method Statement.
- Full clean driving licence and flexibility to travel nationally and internationally.
Qualifications
- The candidate will hold a 3rd level qualification or equivalent in engineering or equivalent with experience in C&I technologies, projects, and practices.
Desirable
- ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP) or demonstrable CPD evidence of progress towards same is preferred.
- Demonstrated CPD in the following specialisms OT Cybersecurity, Functional Safety, HAZOP, ATEX and Intrinsic Safety, PSDP.
- Demonstrated automation project management skills.
Location
- The position is based at either Dublin One DAC or Eastgate Offices and will involve occasional travel. Tailored working arrangements will be considered with the operational requirements of the role and in alignment with the ESB SMART Working model and C&I Team Charter. xcfaprz

Salary
€60,000 - €71,000 Per annum
