Your Role: Tax ExpertAre you a tax expert with a passion for navigating complex international financial landscapes? We’re looking for someone like you to oversee and manage tax-related activities within Fortnum & Mason Plc (F&M). In this pivotal role, you will:
- Provide strategic tax planning and ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Minimize tax-related risks while collaborating with our international trade compliance, data, technical, finance, and reporting teams.
- Lead indirect tax reporting and compliance efforts both in the UK and overseas.
- Support our tax advisors with corporate tax compliance tasks.
- Maintain a tax risk register and review high-risk areas at least once a year.
- Prepare and monitor the tax reporting calendar.
- Handle VAT, GST, and sales tax reporting.
- Provide internal training and guidance on various aspects of direct and indirect taxes.
- Manage corporation tax compliance and reporting, including capital and R&D allowances.
- Work closely with tax advisors to address historic and future risks.
- Excellent VAT technical and analytical skills.
- Strong judgment and risk management abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
- Resilience and strong self-organization skills to meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Excel with the ability to analyze large volumes of data.
- Experience working with tax authorities and external tax advisors.
- A keen interest in technology and innovation.
- Ambition and a strong desire to succeed.
- 5-7 years of experience in tax accounting or management, with some supervisory experience.
- Relevant tax or accounting qualification (CTA, ATT, AAT, ACCA, CIMA, etc.).
- Knowledge of international indirect taxes (GST, sales/use tax for distance selling).
- Understanding of complex VAT treatment of food, mixed supply, and antique sales.
- Experience with ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics.
- Familiarity with tax software (e.g., Avalara, Vertex).
- Experience in the retail sector.
