small, high-caliber engineering team expanding from 2 to 5 members , you will take direct ownership of systems employed daily by actual legal professionals. This is a
product-centric backend role
where reliability, safety, and extensibility are critical. What You'll Build Core product APIs that power matters, documents, chats, and permissions Scalable data models to support evolving agent workflows Agent-facing backend primitives to enable safe autonomous actions Production infrastructure prioritizing reliability and observability Systems that remain auditable, reversible, and correct in authentic legal workflows Tech Environment Python as the core backend language Postgres as the primary datastore Cloud infrastructure (preferably GCP) API-first product architecture AI-assisted engineering workflows What They're Looking For Strong production experience with Python backend systems Proven capability in API and data model design Experience translating product objectives into trustworthy backend architecture Track record of end-to-end system ownership in high-paced environments Comfortable working remotely with mandatory time zone overlap Nice to Have Experience building products from inception or early-stage startup experience Experience with Postgres at scale Exposure to Temporal or background job systems Familiarity with GCP environments Background in collaborative or workflow-heavy SaaS Why This Role Stands Out Meaningful equity in a well-funded, early-stage company Unlimited budget for AI coding tools Real product ownership from day one Annual Mallorca offsite plus regular team gatherings Tight feedback loop with actual legal users If you're passionate about building backend systems that must operate flawlessly in production, we'd love to hear from you...
