Overview of the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Engineer to join a well-established and expanding multi-disciplinary engineering team delivering high-performance automated equipment solutions from concept through to full implementation.
This is a technical leadership role responsible for defining and delivering advanced control system architecture, driving innovation, and ensuring excellence in automation design and implementation across complex medical device manufacturing projects.
You will serve as a technical expert in machine control systems, providing strategic direction, technical leadership, and mentorship to ensure the highest standards of automation design, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and integration of advanced control systems for automated manufacturing equipment, including PLC, SCADA, HMI, Robotics
- Develop, program, test, and commission automation software for new and existing equipment
- Define and implement robust, scalable control system architectures aligned with industry best practices
- Develop and maintain PLC and HMI programs (preferably Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation or Siemens)
- Support and integrate SCADA systems for equipment monitoring and control
- Integrate and support industrial robotics systems (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or equivalent)
- Support motion control systems, servo drives, and automated machine sequences
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Automation and Controls Engineers
- Act as a subject matter expert in automation and control system architecture
- Support cross-functional project teams throughout the full equipment lifecycle
- Lead automation activities from design through FAT, SAT, commissioning, and production handover
- Specify and evaluate automation hardware and control system components
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Quality teams
- Lead root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and efficiency
- Contribute to technical roadmaps and adoption of emerging automation technologies
- Support validation activities including URS, FDS, FAT, SAT, IQ, and OQ documentation
- Ensure automation systems comply with medical device regulatory requirements (GMP, ISO 13485, xcfaprz FDA)
- Support technical documentation and change control processes
Education
- Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in automation engineering within medical device, pharmaceutical, or regulated manufacturing environments
- Strong expertise in PLC and HMI programming (Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation preferred)
- Experience working with SCADA systems and industrial communication networks
- Proven experience with robotics integration (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or similar)
- Strong experience with motion control systems, machine vision, and automated equipment
