  • Graduates of the integrated technician‑apprenticeship program may receive credit towards all four levels of the in‑school portion of an Industrial Electrician (442A) apprenticeship. If participating in the co‑op option, you may also gain on‑the‑job apprenticeship hours.
  • Train for careers in light and heavy manufacturing industries.
  • Technical skills and knowledge of electricity and electrical circuits.
  • Knowledge to install, repair, calibrate and maintain instruments or devices in the operation of electrical motors, generators and distribution equipment.
  • Knowledge to install, repair, calibrate and maintain instruments or devices in the operation of automation and instrumentation equipment.

Fast Track – allows students to complete a two‑year diploma program (non co‑op) in 16 months. Students will start in January and be in school for four continuous semesters: Winter, Spring/Summer, Fall and Winter. Students will not be off during the summer.

  • Practical labs that will require teamwork, problem solving, and execution of theoretical knowledge gained.
  • Gain valuable experience during co‑op work terms. The co‑op program provides students with the opportunity to gain up to 16 months of valuable work experience. Please be advised that the co‑op stream is not available to students who begin the program in January (fast‑track).

This co‑op program has been accredited by CEWIL Canada. This represents the highest standard of achievement for co‑op programs in Canada.


Students interested in the co‑operative program (433) do not apply directly. Once enrolled in program 403, students who start in September, can apply to the co‑op stream (433) during Semester 1 and will be admitted at the end of Semester 1, if they meet the co‑op requirements. Co‑op is not available to students who start first semester in January.

This optional co‑op program offers 40 co‑operative education spots, per fall intake. Academic eligibility requirements will be shared prior to students applying to the co‑op stream.

This program offers four co‑op work term opportunities but requires two completed co‑op work terms for the co‑op designation.


Work Term Capabilities

  • Interpret and produce electrical and electronics drawings using AutoCAD
  • Assemble, test, modify, and maintain electrical circuits and equipment
  • Electrical code and electrical wiring practices; conduit bending and installation
  • Calibrate and maintain instruments or devices in the operation of electrical motors, generators and distribution equipment
  • Install and troubleshoot static and rotating electrical machines and associated control systems
  • Use, verify, and maintain automation and instrumentation equipment and systems
  • Assist in commissioning, testing and troubleshooting electrical power systems under the supervision of a qualified person

Additional Information

Mohawk College students enrolled in the two‑year Electrical Engineering Technician – Power program at the Stoney Creek Campus will be earning more than a technician diploma! Graduates of this program will have taken the in‑school portion of apprenticeship training in the related trade – (442A) Industrial Electrician. This allows graduates to enter an apprenticeship – for which many large employers are demanding a technician diploma for entry – with the apprenticeship in‑school training completed.
