The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Cost Engineer to join us and play a key role in the transition to a low carbon energy future. The role will be within the Project Management Office (PMO). The Senior Cost Engineer will play a key role in the PMO Team. Forming part of the Core team, report to the Onshore Business Operations Manager, and work closely across the CIO.


The Senior Cost Engineer must possess significant and demonstrable experience in undertaking similar role(s) on high‑value and complex programmes, preferably in the Energy and Infrastructure sectors. It is expected that the candidate will be educated to degree level in a project management, cost management, engineering, or construction industry discipline. Strong analytical & IT skills, particularly MS Office Suite, including Power BI is desirable.


The Team

The Infrastructure office leads the development and delivery of the power system, onshore and interconnection investment programmes in collaboration with partners, customers and communities.


The Onshore Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for undertaking three key roles within Infrastructure; Regulation and Compliance Reporting and Auditing, Business Operations and Governance, and Business Intelligence. The team is responsible for setting the governance policies and standards to be used for onshore business readiness and large‑scale onshore transmission infrastructure and regulatory auditing and monitoring of OpEx and CapEx delivery.


The team also develops reports on schedule and financial information and delivery of outcomes and benefits aligned to strategic objectives across the development and readiness of the onshore transmission infrastructure to key stakeholders such as DECC and the CRU.


Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities to be produced and maintained on a weekly, bi‑weekly and monthly basis include:



  • Facilitate cost management updates at weekly project team meetings.
  • Input into Regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Track and log all approved Project budgets and change orders into the Master Project Cost Report.
  • Working closely with the Project Managers and other members of the cross‑functional team to provide detailed cash flow forecasts for projects.
  • Track and monitor contingency draw downs and make recommendations as required.
  • Identify, define, measure and track efficiencies across the suite of portfolios.
  • Facilitate and drive cost trending meetings and analysis.
  • Support the Project Managers with reviewing and agreeing change requests.
  • Accurate and timely recording of financial transactions on the Financial Systems including working with procurement to ensure the correct treatment of contracts, changes and invoices.
  • Support the ongoing process of timely completion of internal timesheets.
  • Supporting the Project Managers in the drafting of the financial information for the Capital Approval / Gateway papers.
  • Qualitative review of financial information prior to governance submissions.
  • Support with data team with cost information for business intelligence requirements.
  • Direct liaison with Finance team and will provide forecast outturn costs and accruals information to both Finance and project teams on a regular basis.
  • Work closely with other teams within CIO (Network Projects Ireland & Dublin, Customer & Connections, Engineering & Asset Management, Transmission Power System Planning and Public Engagement).
  • Support the CIO teams in the yearly business planning process.
  • Support in tender review, evaluation and negotiation processes.
  • Ad-hoc cost management deliverables as required.

About You

Successful candidates will have:



  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Finance or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years significant and demonstrable experience in leading commercial management on multiprogrammes preferably in the Energy and Infrastructure Sectors.
  • Qualification - NFQ 8, Relevant Leadership and Management Training.
  • Professional membership(s) with industry recognized bodies such as SCSI, RICS, APM, ICE is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation and organisational skills will be essential for this role with the ability to forge and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Proactive ability to work independently and work with cross-functional teams including consultants and contractors.
