Job Title: ERS Electrical Testing and Software Engineering Intern Location: Concord, NC Company: GM Performance Power Units (GM PPU) Drive the Future of Formula 1 with GM PPU! GM Performance Power Units is seeking an upper-level intern to support development of Python tools to support the creation of internal artificial intelligence. This role targets upper-level students who bridge mechanical with data or computer science and want hands-on experience applying deep learning to hybrid system development and optimization. Key Responsibilities:
Help create test plans for gathering data from physical ERS hardware Set up, train, and evaluate large datasets and straightforward neural network models Assist with creating, organizing, and running test datasets and generating clear plots and summaries for the engineering team. Qualifications:
Upper-level student in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar field. Experience working with thermocouples and data acquisition components Solid understanding of Python and general programing skills Good communication skills and a collaborative, learning oriented mindset Desirable Skills:
Experience working with Pytorch and creating deep learning models Familiarity with electrical PCBs and batteries Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., GitHub) for version control and collaborative design workflows. Preferably for two years or more, in Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Formula Student, or a similar competitive student engineering program. Personal Attributes:
Strong, hands-on engineering mindset with a bias toward building, testing, and iterating Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning at the intersection of data science, software, and electronics. Able to work independently on well-scoped tasks while asking timely questions when blocked. Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teammates and incorporating feedback into your work. Organized, detail oriented, and committed to clear documentation and high-quality results.
