Role Overview We are excited to welcome a talented AI/ML Data Scientist to our innovative team. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of the Chief Information Officer (HUD OCIO). You will analyze, model, and simulate data to elevate AI/ML proofs of concept and pilot projects. By creating predictive models and frameworks, you will directly contribute to enhancing system performance and operational efficiency. This position is fully remote, available to candidates residing in the United States. Key Responsibilities Design and develop advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms using Python. Analyze complex HUD datasets, ensuring data quality and effective preprocessing for AI workflows. Collaborate with HCD/UX and front-end teams to operationalize models efficiently. Evaluate model performance, validate outcomes, and implement ongoing improvements. Document models, decisions, assumptions, and ethical safeguards to uphold AI governance protocols. Maintain version-controlled code and reproducible workflows for compliance and auditing. Required Experience and Skills A minimum of 5 years in data science, statistical modeling, or AI/ML projects. Demonstrated ability in developing predictive models and decision-support tools. Familiarity with federal datasets and AI governance standards is preferred. Strong skills in data processing, cleaning, transformation, and engineering. Experience with SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Kafka, and cloud-native pipelines. Prior experience supporting HUD OCIO is an advantage. Must successfully pass necessary Federal background screenings and obtain required government clearance. Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. Technical Skills Proficiency in Python (including libraries like pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch). Knowledge of statistical modeling, simulation, and decision theory. Competency in data visualization using tools like Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Plotly. Experience with version control systems (Git/GitHub/GitLab). Familiarity with the AI/ML lifecycle and practices for reproducibility. Core Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate across UX, DevOps, and front-end teams. Excellent documentation and knowledge transfer skills to ensure governance compliance. Experience with iterative testing and validation of AI-driven solutions. Commitment to ethical and privacy-conscious model design. Education and Training Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field (required). Master's degree in Data Science, AI, or a related field (preferred). Relevant certifications in Python, machine learning, or data science (preferred).
