King County Information Technology (KCIT) is seeking a Network Engineer, Journey as part of its Tier 2 production support team for the services it provides. These services include Datacenter, Network Infrastructure, and Technology Platforms. The responsibilities of this position include maintaining and administering large, complex technology systems Countywide and/or large systems of comparable impact in departments or divisions. This classification is responsible for one or more systems such as Cisco switches, Adva Optical devices, Physical Infrastructure Standards, Physical Access security, Systems Engineers resolve IT systems problems for internal and external customers.

Job Duties
Acts as the second level of engineering support in KCIT's three tier model. This position has a heavy emphasis on system monitoring, provisioning, administration, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, patching, networking and system upgrades. Perform operational and administrative functions to ensure continuous operations of enterprise systems by performing monitoring of systems, applications and networks, using tools for verification of services, and detecting, reporting, escalating, and correlating events to determine customer impact and document anomalies according to established procedures.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for IT incidents, service requests, and computer operations management, this position will evaluate, prioritize, correlate alerts and events, document and triage IT incidents to respond promptly and proactivity to minimize end-user impact.
Plan, implement and maintain upgrades/updates/fixes for core operating systems and their related components following industry best practices, without negative impact to the overall availability and reliability of the enterprise systems/networks.
Act as the liaison between vendors, technical support hot lines and departments to resolve complex systems or network problems.
Perform troubleshooting of network routers, switches and other endpoint devices to establish connectivity and existing tools according to established procedures.
Perform the installation, removal and positioning of computer equipment and cabling in the Data Center; ensure availability of resources required to add new equipment. Respond to customer requests for equipment adds/moves/changes.
Perform space planning and installation for servers and related equipment. Electrical audit and planning.
Create standard operating procedures and technical documentation for assigned systems.
Assist with leading the testing of services after change management is implemented.
Assist with physical security measures, such as performing security audits.
Provide a high level of professional, quality customer service at all times.
Enter requests utilizing the IT Service Center ticketing system and evaluate, categorize and prioritize requests.
Document and enter actions taken and decisions made. Refer tickets to other analyst groups and subject matter experts.
Follow security processes and understand how they apply to this role.
Ability to communicate instructions and information effectively in a manner appropriate to the technical knowledge of the audience.
Ability to promote and follow county business policies and procedures, county IT policies, standards and guidelines, and IT Service Center goals and objectives.
Strong written and oral communication skills including strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on relationship building, listening, and questioning skills.
Strong computer troubleshooting, analysis, research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Three years or more experience in an IT role, performing the administration and maintenance of enterprise network systems according to established industry best practices with the customers in mind. Three years or more experience implementing enterprise networks including wide area and local area network technologies. Two or more years' current experience in configuration management of Cisco routers, Cisco switches, and security tools and appliances. One year or more experience in reading and interpreting architectural designs, technical specifications and other technical documents. One year or more experience in current engineering and monitoring tools. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical articulation and documentation. Ability to effectively engage in and sustain relationships with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Desirable Qualifications
Five years or more experience in an IT role, performing the administration and maintenance of enterprise network systems according to established industry best practices with the customers in mind. Three years or more years' current experience in configuration management of Cisco routers, Cisco switches, and security tools and appliances. Other Qualifications
Successful completion of a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check including fingerprinting. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations. Participation in an After-Hours Support Rotation (required). Supplemental Information
Hybrid Work
The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of onsite work and telecommuting. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements . King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support when working remotely.

Work Schedule
The normal work week for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is FLSA Exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay.
