We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated
Computational Specialist
to advance the firm's computational design and AI-driven workflows. This role sits at the intersection of design, technology, and innovation, working closely with the Design Technology Department to develop tools, strategies, and digital standards that elevate practice-wide performance. You will collaborate with project teams to prototype design tools, automate production tasks, integrate AI into design and documentation, and support computational strategies across geometry, building performance, interoperability, and data management. You are curious, rigorous, and continually looking for ways to translate ideas into intelligent, efficient systems.
Responsibilities:
Develop Advanced Computational Workflows • Build parametric systems across Grasshopper, Rhino, Revit, and Dynamo. • Translate design intent into data-rich, performance-aware models.
Integrate AI, Automation, and Performance Analysis • Prototype AI-assisted, generative, and optimization workflows. • Develop automation pipelines and performance analysis workflows (daylight, solar, wind, glare).
Build Custom Tools & Scripts • Develop custom tools and scripts using Python, C#, or similar. • Enable reliable interoperability between Rhino and Revit. • Maintain and document firmwide computational tools.
Support Project Teams • Support complex geometry, façade logic, and model interoperability. • Conduct environmental studies and troubleshoot advanced digital challenges.
Contribute to Standards, Research & Training • Refine computational standards and workflows. • Lead training and research emerging technologies. • Contribute to firmwide design technology culture.
Core Responsibilities & Competencies: • Lead computational design and AI-driven workflows across project teams. • Develop parametric systems for massing, facades, geometry rationalization, and performance-driven design. • Integrate generative design, machine learning, diffusion models, and automation into design and documentation. • Build custom workflows across Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, Dynamo, and scripting tools. • Enable robust BIM-geometry interoperability and façade optimization workflows. • Apply environmental, programmatic, cost, and carbon data to design decisions. • Communicate computational intent through clear diagrams and visuals. • Balance project delivery with research, standards, and mentorship.
Required Experience: • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture • 3+ years of professional architectural or design experience • 3-5s years in a Computational Designer or Specialist role • Advanced proficiency in Rhino and Grasshopper (Kangaroo, Lunchbox, Human, Ladybug Tools, etc.) • Experience integrating Rhino/Grasshopper with Revit (Rhino.Inside or similar) • Strong skills in Python and/or C# for automation and toolmaking • Proficiency with environmental analysis platforms (Ladybug Tools, Pollination, Cove, etc.) • Familiarity with AI tools used ins design, analysis, or documentation • Ability to document workflows and maintain shared tools
Preferred / Plus Experience: • Experience with AI-driven design tools, MCPs, and API integrations • Visualization and rendering proficiency (Enscape, D5, or similar) • Knowledge of digital fabrication, 3D printing, and prototyping workflows
The salary range for this role is
$95k-$115K . Actual compensation packages within that range are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and specific location.
