Position Overview
The Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining a secure, reliable, and efficient network and server infrastructure across all locations. This role supports approximately 150 employees in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and ensures stable operations for daily business, engineering, and production activities.
The Network Administrator works independently to manage complex technical issues, collaborates with users and vendors during upgrades and implementations, and supports both IT and OT (operational technology) systems throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Network & Infrastructure Administration
Maintain and support all central office and remote site network equipment including firewalls, switches, wireless systems, security filters, and camera systems. Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and ensure high availability across all facilities. Configure and maintain WAN/VPN connectivity, including Cisco AnyConnect and MS Remote Desktop Service solutions for remote access. Perform occasional physical infrastructure tasks such as cabling, hardware installation, and accessing equipment on the plant floor. Server & Systems Administration
Administer and support Windows Server environments, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy. Design, manage, and maintain highly available Hyper-V cluster environments and SAN storage systems. Manage file systems, print servers, antivirus/EDR platforms, and system monitoring tools. Perform backups, restores, replication tasks, tape management, and offsite storage rotation. Participate in disaster recovery planning and maintain business continuity procedures. Manufacturing, Engineering & OT Support
Support, install, and maintain engineering and manufacturing systems including: Autodesk Inventor & AutoCAD Vault Server Mastercam Siemens NX & Siemens VNCK PQ quality measuring systems Provide support for network-connected manufacturing equipment, industrial controls, and plant-floor operational technology. Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure stable connectivity for critical systems. User Support & Workstation Management
Maintain and update desktop systems with patches, security updates, new software, and third-party applications. Triage and resolve end-user issues in a timely and professional manner. Manage user accounts, computers, and groups in Active Directory, Office 365, and email systems. Support Microsoft 365 applications including Teams and SharePoint. Cybersecurity & Compliance
Maintain and enhance compliance with NIST 800-171 requirements for government contract work. Assist with reviewing system logs, monitoring security alerts, and supporting vulnerability management efforts. Manage user access, permissions, and authentication policies. Strengthen cybersecurity practices through patching, access controls, endpoint protection, and secure configurations. Conduct risk assessments and support compliance with company IT security policies. Telecommunications
Manage VoIP systems including user onboarding, call routing, call center configuration, and voicemail administration. Training, Reporting & Documentation
Develop and manage IT user training content for online learning programs. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of network architecture, system configurations, and technical procedures. Keep current with emerging technologies, security threats, and industry trends. Identify opportunities to optimize performance, improve system reliability, and enhance overall security. Cross-Location Support
Provide daily remote support to the Michigan location. Occasional travel to Michigan as needed for onsite maintenance, support, or upgrades. Qualifications
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Industry certifications preferred, such as: Microsoft Azure Administrator CompTIA Network+ or Security+ Cisco CCNA Technical Skills
5+ years of experience with Microsoft server and desktop operating systems. Strong understanding of wired and wireless network architectures, VLANs, switch configuration, and firewall management. Experience with:
Hyper-V virtualization and cluster storage DNS, DHCP, Group Policy SQL basics Additional skills:
Strong PC hardware/software troubleshooting knowledge, including shared network resources. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications including Teams and SharePoint. Experience working with Dell servers, storage, and networking hardware, and enterprise storage systems. Professional Skills
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Effective time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Professional and customer-focused approach; able to work effectively with engineers, production staff, and office personnel. Ability to adapt to a production-driven environment where priorities may shift quickly.
