Location: Region 9 ESC Job Summary Perform technical work to install and maintain computer equipment, network, and software applications throughout the ESC and regional school districts. Respond to ESC staff and school district requests by diagnosing and repairing network and computer hardware.
Qualifications Education/Certification Bachelor's degree preferred and/or comparable experience Advanced training certifications preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications Knowledge of computer, network, and security systems Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals Ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs Ability to operate and troubleshoot distance learning endpoint equipment, as well as distance learning bridges Ability to detect, analyze, and solve technical problems Ability to communicate effectively Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience Required Experience with a variety of computer software applications and technologies Experience in working with ASCENDER software preferred
Major Job Responsibilities 1. Training staff to understand and use security protocols. 2. Assist department members and ESC staff with installation of software and technical assistance. 3. Provide computer software assistance, including program update to member districts. 4. Monitor data security and backup procedures to ensure integrity of databases. 5. Provide training on computer systems and software. 6. Diagnose and repair equipment, including printers, terminals, and personal computers. 7. Communicate and work with software and hardware vendors to resolve end-user problems. 8. Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of data communications circuits and equipment. 9. Assist with installation and testing of network hardware, software, and upgrades, and identify and resolve issues. 10. Implement and maintain all system configurations, and ensure that the system maintenance is performed. 11. Monitor and analyze utilization; recommend improvements as needed. 12. Develop and oversee implementation and maintenance of security for assigned systems and networks. 13. Assist with the development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan. 14. Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support. 15. Develop and maintain network design and configuration documentation. 16. Consult with end users to identify the need, analyze system specifications, and correct related problems. 17. Identify and recommend the acquisition of software and hardware to meet the networking needs for assigned areas. 18. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. 19. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. 20. Maintain Region 9s network LAN and WAN servers including security, backup, and CIPA compliant content filter. 21. Install, administer, and troubleshoot network security solutions. 22. Update software with the latest security patches and ensure the proper defenses are present for each network resource. 23. Perform vulnerability and penetration tests, identifying and defending against threats, and develop disaster recovery plans. 24. Configure security systems, analyze security requirements, and recommend improvements. 25. Monitor network traffic for suspicious behavior. 26. Create network policies and authorization roles and defending against unauthorized access, modifications, and destruction. 27. Consult with staff, directors, and executives about the best security practices and provide technical advice 28. Configuring and supporting security tools, such as firewalls and anti-virus software. 29. Provide professional development and technical assistance through face-to-face and/or remote technology, as necessary.
Minor Job Responsibilities 1. Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service. 2. Respond to after hour emergencies as needed. 3. Coordinate with other ESC Departments/Services. 4. Assist with any assigned tasks deemed necessary for the function of the ESC or assistance with clients.
