Oxford Solutions is working with a growing data technology organization seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join their team in Pittsburgh. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for a hands-on technical leader who enjoys building scalable data infrastructure from the ground up.
In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize AWS-native data pipelines and core workflows that power analytics and application use cases. You will take ownership of ingestion, transformation, modeling, and validation processes while helping define best practices and long-term architecture for the data platform.
Responsibilities:
Architect and build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS Glue, Glue Crawlers, and Step Functions Manage and optimize data storage within Amazon S3 Design and implement data models in Amazon Redshift to support analytics and reporting Oversee metadata management and schema discovery using AWS Glue Data Catalog Ensure data integrity, quality, and consistency across pipelines and datasets Implement data governance standards, access controls, and security best practices Develop monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks for data workflows Collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to define requirements and deliver trusted datasets Establish documentation standards, naming conventions, and scalable engineering practices Contribute to defining the long-term roadmap for the organization's data platform Qualifications:
Strong hands-on experience with AWS data services including Redshift, Glue ETL, Glue Crawlers, Spark, S3, Step Functions, and Glue Data Catalog Deep understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT design patterns, and downstream data consumption Advanced SQL and Python skills with experience working with large-scale datasets Proven experience building and supporting production-grade data pipelines Experience with Git-based version control and collaborative development workflows Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, well-structured data solutions Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate independently Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders Relevant AWS or data engineering certifications are a plus
This role is fully onsite in Pittsburgh and offers the opportunity to make a measurable impact on a rapidly evolving data platform.
