To meet our growing Canadian business needs, we are looking for an Junior or Intermediate Hydraulic Modeler in our Toronto or Kitchener office. The successful individual will support a range of projects for clients in major public and private sector organizations and will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects. We work closely with colleagues across the company to ensure an integrated and solutions-driven approach to resilience and sustainability.
The successful candidate will have design experience or interest in water resources areas such as hydraulic modeling for a variety of applications including urban drainage, floodplain mapping, stormwater management and low impact development (LID). Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, including the ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues and clients, and to develop and motivate others in the team.
Responsibilities include:
- Support and collaborate with our conveyance and hydraulic modelling teams to perform a variety of hydraulic analyses including linear infrastructure design, floodplain modelling and mapping, stormwater management and low impact development, master planning and model calibration projects.
- Prepare technical documents and reports summarizing the development, schematization, and results of hydraulic modelling analyses for client review.
- Support and collaborate with our Conveyance, Water Resources and Buildings teams on multi-disciplinary projects, as well as with the client.
- Work collaboratively in the team, coordinating with internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- 2 to 5 years of experience developing or utilizing hydraulic models for linear infrastructure and/or flood mapping projects.
- Experience in design of surface drainage systems, stormwater management measures and LID features, including, but not limited to water quality and quantity control.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
* Strong understanding of hydraulic and hydrologic concepts related to urban drainage systems, floodplains and model development
* Knowledge of or direct experience with hydraulic and hydrologic modelling software such as InfoWorks ICM, PCSWMM, MIKE Urban, MIKE+, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS
* Knowledge of or direct experience with Arc GIS/Arc Map for both analysis and development of deliverables.
* Strong communication, report writing, organization and interpersonal skills.
* Eligible to be licensed to practice as a professional engineer in Ontario within 1 to 3 years.
* Ideal candidate possess a Masters in Engineering focused on hydraulic modeling.
* Knowledge of municipal and provincial review processes and standards for permitting and approvals, including legislation, standards, regulations and guidelines pertaining to site works and storm water services.
* Familiar with GTA and other Ontario design manuals, standards, tools and other water resources guidelines.
* Familiar with contract administration services and requirements.
* Outstanding abilities in multidisciplinary project teamwork and coordination.
* Skilled in common desktop applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Project, etc.)
