Description
Serve as a designer for producing digital, video and print materials. Collaborate with writers and designers to conceptualize and design materials used in recruitment and retention. Collaborate with the senior designer, brand manager, director and other team members in executing university branding initiatives, campaigns and events. Conduct photo shoots and serve as a photographer as needed for high-impact initiatives. Work with the IMC web team and Integrated Marketing Specialists to provide photos, icons, infographics and other design items for the UCM website. Attend meetings with clients from various university units. Examples of Duties Graphic Design -90% Serve as a graphic designer for materials to be produced in digital, video and print formats. Meet deadlines and communicate challenges. Collaborate with writers and designers to conceptualize and design materials with high visual impact for recruitment, retention, student engagement, strategic positioning and outreach. Work closely with the IMC team to brainstorm new, innovative ideas for projects, even outside of your area of expertise that would further UCM's institutional aspirations across digital, web, social media and traditional channels. Work collaboratively with the senior designer, brand manager and director to execute university branding initiatives, campaigns and events. Conduct photo shoots and serve as a photographer as needed for high-impact initiatives. Collaborate with the Center for Print Production to select paper type and ink for high-priority projects. Attend and sometimes lead meetings with partners from various university units to determine their creative needs regarding project requests. Strategize with partners to develop solutions that promote the university's brand and identity. Estimate time requirements for project completion. Manage time and meet deadlines. Communicate challenges. Assist partners in finding solutions that will fit their budgets. Work on designs to produce effective campaigns. Present final design solutions to clients. Work with the IMC web team and Integrated Marketing Specialists to provide photos, icons, infographics and other design items for the UCM website. Design high-profile and quick-turnaround projects for campus clients such as the President's Office, the Office of Admissions, the Office of Student Experience and Engagement, academic colleges, departments and programs, as well as other areas on campus. Work individually or with a creative team to construct presentations and present concepts to clients. Proactively keep abreast of emerging design trends, technologies and marketing solutions. Consult with the team on updates and needs. Become aware of and understand the university's and IMC's goals, strategies, attitudes and possibilities. Bring a strong voice and perspective to discussions of student recruitment, brand management and student retention. Facilitate promotional collateral management of orders and production and maintain vendor relationships. Update web content and coding on web banners, feature stories, navigation, etc. Work on other duties as assigned. Supervision -10%
Assist with recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating the work of student designers. Provide art direction to student designers Typical Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree (Specify field(s) of study below) Bachelor's degree in commercial art, graphic design or related field. Education may be substituted for experience or experience substituted for education based on the following equivalencies: AA = 2 years; BA/BS = 4 years; MA/MA = 6 years; PhD = 8 years. Experience:
Two (2) years of designing four-color publications required. Two (2) years of using design software including at least two of these three: InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator. Knowledge of using Mac computer hardware required Knowledge of printing pre-flighting required. Knowledge of digital printing process and equipment preferred Supervisory experience managing creative professionals preferred. Knowledge of branding guidelines preferred. Agency experience preferred. Licensing experience preferred. Photography experience preferred. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, email marketing campaigns, and web responsive design preferred. Must submit portfolio and publication/web samples as a part of the application process.
