Product Manager - PI Background
About the job
Precedent is an AI-native B2B SaaS platform modernizing the $150B+ personal injury claims ecosystem by digitizing and standardizing how plaintiff law firms and insurance carriers exchange claim data. The company transforms complex, unstructured inputs—medical bills, records, police reports, and demand materials—into structured, carrier-ready outputs that reduce friction, accelerate time to resolution, and improve settlement outcomes. Precedent operates a scalable, usage-based model with expanding margins and a growing suite of high-value workflow products positioned at the center of millions of claims annually.
The Role
As a Product Manager, you will own the strategy, roadmap, and execution for core workflow products that serve plaintiff law firms. Your mission is to deeply understand how personal injury cases move through a firm—from intake through resolution—and translate that understanding into product decisions that allow Precedent to make our firms more efficient and achieve better case outcomes.
This role requires someone who has lived the workflows we're building for. You'll bring firsthand experience in personal injury case management from the plaintiff side—whether as a paralegal, case manager, or similar role at a PI firm—and pair it with sharp product instincts to shape what we build, how it works, and why it matters. Formal product management experience is a plus, but what matters most is that you know PI inside and out, you're tech-savvy, and you're motivated to learn fast. We will invest in developing your product skills. You will work closely with Engineering, Sales, Operations, and Customer Success to ship products that deliver measurable outcomes for law firms.
Candidates need to be currently proficient with AI tools and interested in becoming expert AI users.
What You'll Do
* Own the product roadmap for key workflow areas, from discovery through delivery
* Define product requirements grounded in deep understanding of how PI firms operate
* Partner with Engineering to scope, prioritize, and ship features, making speed/robustness tradeoff decisions frequently
* Conduct customer research—interviews, ride-alongs, and usage analysis—to identify pain points and opportunities
* Translate complex legal workflows into clear, well-scoped product specs
* Work with AI engineers to define how AI capabilities are applied to legal document workflows
* Monitor product adoption, usage patterns, and customer feedback to inform iteration
* Collaborate with Customer Success and Sales to understand what drives adoption and retention
* Make principled tradeoffs between speed, scope, and quality in a fast-moving environment
* Contribute to product strategy and positioning as Precedent expands its platform
What Success Looks Like
* Features ship on time and solve real problems validated by customer usage and feedback
* Customers adopt new capabilities quickly because the product fits naturally into their existing workflows
* The product roadmap is informed by direct knowledge of PI case operations
* Engineering trusts your specs and prioritization because requirements are clear, well-reasoned, and grounded in domain expertise
* Cross-functional partners (Sales, CS, Support) view Product as a responsive, credible collaborator
What We're Looking For
* 3+ years of professional experience at a personal injury law firm—as a paralegal, case manager, legal assistant, or in legal operations
* Deep, firsthand knowledge of the PI case lifecycle: medical records, billing, demand preparation, case evaluation, and claims resolution
* Tech-savvy and curious—you pick up new tools quickly and have strong opinions about how software should work
* Ability to translate domain expertise into clear product requirements that engineering teams can build from
* Strong communication skills—comfortable working with highly varied roles such as engineers, attorneys, customer success managers, and executives
* Organized, self-directed, and highly accountable in a fast-paced environment
* Eager to learn product management skills and grow into the role quickly
* Excited about AI, legal tech, and building something meaningful from the ground up
Nice to Have
* Prior experience in product management, project management, or a similar role at a technology company
* Experience with legal technology platforms (e.g. case management systems and other legal AI tools)
* Experience working with AI/ML-powered products or defining requirements for AI features
* Background evaluating or implementing software tools at a law firm
Why Join Precedent
* Be part of a high-growth legal technology company with real customer impact
* Your domain expertise will directly shape the product
* Remote-first culture with a collaborative, ownership-driven team
