Position Description
Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for implementing, documenting and improving production processes relating to Safety, Quality, Production Efficiency, On Time Delivery and Internal and External Customer Satisfaction. The Manufacturing Engineer will assess process risks and take actions to mitigate those risks through PFMEA, Risk Registers and other Tools. The Manufacturing Engineer will study, document and update process routings BOM’s and operations.
This position is fast-paced and requires spending time in an office setting, and on the shop floor. There will be times when this position will work with unionized hourly employees. This position will interact with internal contacts in Production, Quality, Engineering and other departments. This person will have external contact with vendors and must be willing to travel.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluates manufacturing processes, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
- Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors and maintenance.
- Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, providing appropriate assembly instructions, determining space requirements, and refining equipment layout.
- Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing process outputs meet requirements.
- Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Maintains product and company reputation by ensuring compliance with government regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing assigned tasks correctly, completely and in a timely manner.
- Completes Job Specific Hazard Analysis and maintains safety documents such as the Lock Out Tag Out instructions and procedures, assists with training.
- Must be willing and able to travel internationally as an essential employee of an essential business. (10-20%)
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manufacturing Engineer Manager or COO.
- Provides work direction to Co-op Students if required.
Qualifications
- College diploma or University Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5 to 10 years working experience as a Process or Manufacturing Engineer.
- Self-starter requiring minimal supervision to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Possess high degree of mechanical aptitude and be well-versed with manufacturing methods and procedures.
- Skilled at presenting technical information.
- Must possess design skills in Solid Works and Auto Cad.
- Able to work overtime as required.
- Effective verbal and written communication with people at all levels of the organization.
- Fluent in Continual Improvement techniques and be familiar with CI tools.
- Experience with ERP and PLM systems.
